With every update, Fortnite adds new features to the game. Whether they improve something, add weapons, new missions, skins, or even vault some weapons, something different happens. A cool feature implemented a while back is the split-screen function. Thanks to split-screen, Fortnite players can add a second player to their game without resorting to using another console. It’s a fun way to play with friends and family, and we’ll show you just how you can access it.

(Updated on August 8, 2024 – Fact-checked and updated the guide’s information).

How to Play Split-Screen in Fortnite

Fortnite Split Screen Second Player

It’s remarkably easy for a second player to join your Fortnite session in split-screen mode. In fact, it only takes 4 steps:

  1. Head over to the Main Menu in Fortnite.
  2. Check that both the controllers are connected to the console and turned on.
  3. With the controllers connected, the first player must invite the second player to select their account.
  4. Once the second player signs into their account, they’ll appear in the lobby, and the split-screen mode will activate when you get into a game.

Before you and a friend can enjoy the split-screen function in Fortnite, you must know there are some limitations. First off, there’s limited availability. This is only available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles so that you can play Duos and Squads.

Note that you won’t see the split-screen until you’re actually in a game. Because of this aspect, you won’t share sub-menus or lobby screens.

Another limitation is that split-screen mode doesn’t support multiple languages. So, you both must use the same language setting. Also, you can’t share inventory when you play. And if one player ever disconnects, the session will immediately end.

Lastly, remember to have a stable internet connection. Otherwise, this all might not work.
