Chapter 5 Season 2 was supposed to add SEGA characters into the mix, but internal disputes postponed it indefinitely. Fast forward to now, and it looks like Fortnite‘s long-rumored Sonic collaborations might actually be happening. Best of all, though, he’s bringing friends. Not just familiar faces from the Green Hill Zone, though, but also others across the gaming world.
A leaked Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Gaming Legends art recently made the rounds online before the original uploader claimed it was fake and deleted it. Unfortunately for them, the internet moves fast. The image was quickly preserved and spread all over the web, giving curious fans time to pick through the latest crossover line-up. And boy, there is plenty to look at.
The Fortnite leaked gaming legends won’t just welcome Sonic, Shadow, Eggman, Tails, and Knuckles — complete with ‘weird,’ more realistic proportions. But also Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Persona 5‘s Joker, Jade from Beyond Good and Evil, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and 99 Nights from Roblox. Mega Man’s trusty robotic dog Rush can also be seen, which probably will be added as a Sidekick Pet.

At first, many believed it was simply an AI-generated fake leak. But that was quickly ‘debunked’ thanks to a real-life Sonic 35th Anniversary celebration event. In New York, SEGA and Archie Comics gave away a Fortnite x Sonic official collaboration comic to fans attending the Chaos Hunt event. As you can guess, both Sonic featured in the comic and the leaked Fortnite art sport the exact same design.
It’s fair to say that this gaming legends crossover might just be one of Fortnite‘s biggest events after Marvel and Star Wars collaborations. Still, adding Sora as a Square Enix rep instead of any Final Fantasy character is certainly a… choice — but not a surprising one.
Just a couple of days ago, Disney announced that the action RPG series has joined Marvel and Star Wars games as one of its $1 billion-seller franchises. Then during the D23 event, the company also announced that Kingdom Hearts is getting an anime spin-off for Disney+. What’s more, Disney and Epic Games, too, have been working together since 2024 on a virtual universe expansion for Fortnite. With all of these considered, Sora showing up in the Shattered Coast isn’t as crazy as you think.

What is surprising, though, is why it took this long for Sonic to get into Epic’s battle royale. Rumors on the street said that Epic planned only to add Sonic-themed costumes for existing characters for the collab. SEGA wasn’t happy; it wanted its iconic character to stay true to the classic design instead — elongated arms, giant head, and all. SEGA then basically took Joker as another hostage unless this design problem could be solved.
Two years passed, and it seems both companies have finally agreed on a crossover deal. And this new design could be a compromise between the two gaming companies, complete with a silly excuse.
After all, the Sonic design used for Fortnite is not SEGA’s actual one-and-only Blue Blur himself. The Fortnite x Sonic comic revealed that the weirdly proportioned ‘Fortnite Sonic’ is actually robots created by Eggman. Which was then stolen and reprogrammed by Tails to join the good guys.
With the drama between SEGA and Fortnite behind us, now we just have to wait and see if this massive Gaming Legends lineup is the real deal.
