Free Comic Book Day is right around the corner, and this year’s samplings are certainly exciting.
Ever since 2002, this one day has been a celebration for fans of all comics, as well as a way to ease newcomers into the genre. And the reach for this holiday has extended much farther than when it originally started, with some stores in other countries beginning to participate. This Saturday, May 7th, people from all around will be able to go to their local comic book stores and find tons of free issues to pick up – and probably many other comics or products at a decreased price.

Not only are all the well-known publishers like DC and Marvel bringing free issues, but there will be offerings for fans of Archie, Bob’s Burgers, Spongebob, Assassin’s Creed, Doctor Who and even some anime action in an Attack on Titan anthology preview. With over 50 free comics in total, there is sure to be something available for everyone.
Of course, there are a few standouts from this exhaustive list. The Avengers: Civil War II issue is sure to be one of the most popular items, especially with the release of the new Civil War movie this weekend. Viz Media has both a One Punch Man/My Hero Academia issue and a Pokemon comic to interest fans of those franchises. Dark Horse Comics also has an issue featuring Hellboy, Serenity, and Aliens – which, if you haven’t been reading their latest Aliens: Defiance series, I highly recommend you pick that up as well.
There are plenty of options available for a variety of comic readers, so be sure to check out this list to look at what you might like. In addition, you can check out the official website to see what stores near you are participating in this celebration.
Happy Free Comic Book Day everyone! May your day be full of superheroes and scoundrels, at least on the page.
