It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since the pop culture giant that was Game of Thrones ended its eight-season run.
But funnily enough, for a show that received almost universal acclaim for its first bunch of seasons, the ending of the high fantasy series left its passionate fanbase divided. Outrage erupted over the internet, with a small portion of fans petitioning for Season 8 to get remade completely. Many felt they’d been duped after loyally watching the series for eight long years.
And now, after the myriad of outraged Twitter threads and Facebook posts, we finally have the opinion of Jon Snow himself, Kit Harington.
The 33-year-old actor took to Twitter in a fan Q & A hosted by a Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke fan account, @purpledwagons.
Among the questions he received, he was inevitably asked about the disappointment surrounding Jon Snow’s ending in Game of Thrones.
“When people say to me, ‘I wish you’d been on the Throne, or I wish you’d been with Dany on the Throne,’ I disagree,” Harington said, because Jon’s place was always in the North. He’d never have been happy in the South. He’s like Ned Stark.”
Harington continued by saying:
What I tried to do with the ending was…you know, he’s been saddled with this weight all the way through the series –and he’s this heavy character, he’s literally got a cloak on him, he’s heavy. And I wanted this last bit to be a sort of lightness about him. It’s all falling off, this terrible thing that he’s been through, it’s falling off as he goes North.
