A gay teenager in Ohio is asking the internet for help after claiming her parents gave her an ultimatum: attend church or leave home entirely.

The teenager shared a video launching a series of posts in which she said she was secretly trying to raise money to move out of her “homophobic household.” She explained that she was 18 years old and that her parents had found out she had a girlfriend.

After her parents learned about her relationship, the teenager said they gave her an ultimatum: “get out of the house” or “don’t be gay and go to church every Sunday.” She said she turned to social media to ask for help as she planned to move out within four months or possibly a little longer.

The teenager added that she was currently spending about $100 per week on items she would need for her first apartment. She included her Cash App and Venmo information in her bio and told viewers that she would appreciate any help. She also created and shared a GoFundMe for people who wanted to contribute toward her plans to move out. As of now, the fundraiser has reached $26,394.

“My name is Alea. I am 18 years old, and I am saving up to leave my childhood home that I never thought I would leave. I am reaching out to the community for help because of the circumstances of me leaving. My parents found out I was in a relationship with another girl, and I was given an ultimatum: ‘Either leave this house, or you can live here, not be gay, and go to church every Sunday with us.’ As of right now, I am choosing to stay at home so I can save as much money as I can before I leave home. Any donation to me and my cause is always appreciated. Much love to everyone :),” she wrote in the description of her GoFundMe.

Alea later shared another video thanking people for their donations and support. “I’m very grateful for everybody,” she said. She also revealed that she had become emotional and cried several times because of the kind messages she received from viewers. Alea said she plans to continue updating people as she begins this new chapter of her life.

Viewers Side With Ohio Teenager Following Emotional Video

The video sparked reactions online. Many viewers sympathized with the Ohio teenager after hearing her story, while several criticized her parents over the ultimatum she said they gave her after learning she was gay. “I want to speak to your parents,” one person wrote. Another commenter agreed, saying, “Me too! Because would you rather your kid be happy and in your life or not in your life at all.”

Many people also offered the teenager advice on how to handle the situation. “Quick advice, play their game. Don’t rebel against them. That way they will not sabotage your efforts and plans. That way you can easily achieve them and not put yourself and your gf in danger. The universe will help you succeed,” one person wrote. Another commenter told her, “Former affirming pastor and father of 2 queer kiddos – just donated. Don’t believe for a moment that the divine is not within you. Cheering you on from a distance!”

The video sparked a broader conversation about how parents should support and accept their children rather than reject or criticize them because of their sexuality. It also led to discussion about the importance of people coming together online to support those who may be going through difficult situations or need help.
