The new Ghostbusters Afterlife is releasing on Monday. Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd gave an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon to discuss the old duology and the new film. Together, they played the eponymous crew of parapsychologists in the original ’80s duology of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II alongside the late Harold Ramis. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson also appeared in the 2016 reboot of the Ghostbusters, directed by Paul Feig.

They talked extensively about what it was like to work on the original films together and pass the torch to a younger generation of Ghostbusters during their late-night appearance.

“Jason Reitman wrote a great script, so full of heart, going right back to the first two movies and its DNA… We just read it and thought, ‘This is the right time,’” Aykroyd told The Tonight Show host.

“Jason is the son of the original [Ghostbusters] director Ivan Reitman,” Murray added. “He had his own take because he grew up as a child of the Ghostbusters in a way. He had something he thought would work as a good story and we all agreed that he got it.”

In response to Jimmy Fallon’s question, the group was asked to remember how the “Afterlife” director acted as a child on the Ghostbusters set, to which Bill Murray replied, “He was a pain in the a**.”

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson met at the New York City premiere of Ghostbusters: Afterlife on Monday, where they remembered Harold Ramis, their co-star, and friend.

“Well, he would always be on time, so he would have already made us look bad,” Murray told ET’s Lauren Zima when asked about Harold. “He was very punctual and he would be just looking at us, staring at us. He was punctual and prepared and we’re neither of those things. We’re raw, unfinished talent. We’re unfinished diamonds. We’re very rough.”

Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson reprised their iconic roles for the new film based on the original 1984 film and its 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II. In response to a question about how jumping into their old wardrobe felt, Aykroyd instantly replied, “Like yesterday to me. It felt like I was called back to service.”

Following the granddaughters of the late Egon Spengler (Ramis), Afterlife follows them as they move into the “creepy old farmhouse” that he left them in Summerville. With the discovery of their grandfather’s ghost-busting past, Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) must also realize that they aren’t afraid of ghosts. Ghostbusters: Afterlife releases on Monday, November 15, 2021.
