One of the filthiest yet most creative dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio is the Giant Sandworm Belly. And yes, it is exactly what you imagine: the insides of a giant worm. During the game’s main story, you’ll encounter a particular human shaped like a greatworm, and you’ll need to fight it to progress. However, things will go south quickly and literally, as it will swallow you and your group, leaving you with just a few minutes to escape one crappy demise. So, if you’re struggling with this dungeon, we’ve prepared a few tips on how to escape the place and beat the boss.
Greatworm Homo Butera Strategy
This boss fight is different from others, especially since you won’t actually beat this human. Instead, you need to beat it enough so the story moves on and you progress to the dungeon. Still, there are a few tips you need to know before facing this foe.
- Greatworm Homo Butera is weak against Ice Attacks. However, using up your MP is a bad idea, especially when heading inside the dungeon. Yet, if you want to beat this enemy quickly and have MP restoration potions, go wild with your spells.
- Homo Butera isn’t resistant to physical attacks, which means you can spam them to lower its HP until the dungeon opens up. You can use any Synthesis Skill or normal Skill that lowers its defense to do more damage.
Since you won’t actually beat the boss, there is no need for a proper strategy here other than to save your MP and lower its defense. However, if you want a few recommendations on Archetypes, keep the Protagonist as Seeker, Strohl as Brawler, and Hulkenberg as Knight. Once you get the enemy to a certain threshold, the dungeon will open up.
Foregut Loot & Guide
When the Sandworm swallows you, you’ll be inside a sort of safe room that allows you to meet one character, save your progress, and make any changes before heading inside. The dungeon is timed, and you only have 15 minutes to escape. Also, the timer doesn’t stop during a fight, so be careful about who you face. Once you are ready, open the door and head inside.
Before we talk about the route you should take, here’s a list of the items you can get in the Giant Sandworm’s Foregut:
- Balm of Life x1
- Neon Mushroom x1
- Binding Rope x1
- Corrosive Acid x1
- Gritty Weapon x1
- Stygian Sutra x1
- Onyx x1
- Magla Pill x1
- Blessed Water x1
- Hero’s Incense x1
- Peridot x1
- Great Spirit Dust x1
- Magla Potion x1
- Grand Iron x1
- Hero’s Leaf of Light x1
In truth, exploring the Giant Sandworm Belly in Metaphor: ReFantazio isn’t hard, but you should be mindful of the things you decide to fight. In this area, you’ll face Gelatinos who are weak to Electric. If you don’t have someone able to do Electric damage, this will be a tough run. While not recommended, you can skip all enemy fights and focus on the loot. Also, if you face the Aquatic Shuper, slice attacks will do the job, so use the Protagonist’s sword for these encounters.
As a recommended path, stick to the stomach acid area first, which is the swamp-like section. As long as you roll by pressing the dodge button, you’ll advance a bit faster. Once you cross this area, circle back to where the enemies are to grab the loot and head to the exit.
Hindgut Loot & Guide
Just like the Foregut area of the Giant Sandworm Belly, we’ll list the loot you can obtain here before moving on to the best path.
- Neon Mushroom x1
- Hero’s Incense x1
- Aromatic Resin x1
- Peridot x1
- Scorpion’s Sting x1 (Gunner Weapon)
- Enduring Incense x1
- Corrosive Acid x1
- Graced Water x1
- Hero’s Fruit x1
- Superior Gritty Polearm x1
- Fences Headgear x1 (Increase Evasion against Slash attacks)
First, I need to mention the two difficult enemies you’ll face inside the Giant Sandworm of Metaphor: ReFantazio, the Homo Fios, and Parasitic Valmo. Homo Fios is weak against Fire, so if you have anyone with Bot, you should be good. However, Homo Fios can increase its Evasion and Hit and lower yours, so be careful with that. It is better to wait until all debuffs are gone before attacking. Also, you’ll face this foe next to a Magla Crystal, so save this enemy for last. On the other hand, the Parasitic Valmo will summon enemies, including Gelatinos. Defeat these first and then focus on attacking the worm-like creature.
Here, I took the middle path first, which is the swamp-like area to grab the loot, and then circled back to eliminate enemies. I left the Magla Crystal to the end, so I had enough loot and a few more levels to defeat the Homo Fios. Assuming you take the same path as I did, you should finish the dungeon with at least two minutes on the clock. Also, if you have the opportunity, switch Strohl to Gunner, as it is useful here due to the status effects that Gunner’s skills can apply.
