PlayStation and Sony Santa Monica’s magnum opus, God of War Ragnarok, is finally being free from its console exclusivity shackles with the upcoming release of its PC version tomorrow, September 19, 2024. Right before the game makes it into the hands of fans, the first-party developer has released a new trailer that shows what makes the PC version better than the original console release.
The launch trailer, which came with a blog post providing more detail as well, can be watched below. It shows that the PC version will come with fewer hits for puzzles, and cinematic audio descriptions. The puzzle hints you get from a companion can be increased or decreased in gameplay settings to suit your preference. If you own the PlayStation version of the game, you will also receive these new features in a future update.
The new Cinematic Audio Descriptions feature lets you play detailed descriptions of visual events while cutscenes take place. The descriptions will add contextual information along with voice-acted dialogue to help players will limited vision to experience what is happening to its fullest. This features, like the previous one, is optional and can be turned on from the Accessibility settings.
SSM has also added extra goodies for streamers, which include new alert animations. If you’re not a streamer, you can go to the company website and download a fan kit which includes wallpapers and other free items.
Although not mentioned in the launch trailer, God of War Ragnarok will come with the Valhalla DLC with the PC release. The free mode includes a lot of content and continues the game’s story in a very important way. Speaking of the story, there are many questions left unanswered even after the end of Valhalla, which you can play after finishing the main campaign.
The director of the original God of War, Cory Barlog, is currently working on a new game and has been since 2018. He recently took to X (formerly Twitter) and mentioned how his new project is going really well, and he is lucky to be working with such a talented team. Perhaps another entry in the long-running God of War franchise is in the works, or maybe a brand-new IP altogether.
