Warner Bros. has been drip-feeding information about Gotham Knights since its first gameplay trailer, and today it’s Batgirl’s turn in the spotlight. San Diego Comic-Con is currently underway, and that’s where the new details about Gotham Knights have surfaced.
The trailer starts off like the ones before it, showing the logos of all four Knights, and then quickly switches to gameplay. We get to see Batgirl, her Batcycle, as well as some snippets of traversal and combat.
A Familiar Stroll Through The Knight
In terms of gameplay, Batgirl seems to be the most Batman-like character when compared to the other Knights. She doesn’t have any fancy superpowers or gliders, she’s just run-of-the-mill Batgirl, and that might be for the best.
Where she does differ from the best bat-themed caped crusader is her weaponry. In Gotham Knights, she is armed with high-tech nunchucks that can turn into batons, she also has other longer-range options in her arsenal which mainly consist of her wrist-mounted Batarang launchers.
The trailer is narrated by Batgirl herself, as she talks about her motivations when it comes to protecting Gotham now that Batman is dead. At the end of the trailer, we’re greeted with the pre-order bonuses, which, for Batgirl, happen to be the 233 Kustom Batcycle skin.
Compared to the other Gotham Knights, she may seem a bit plain. Especially when Red Hood can hop in the air using supernatural ethereal energy, Nightwing has a Fortnite glider, and Robin has a Justice League teleporter. But her gameplay might be the best fit for everyone who enjoyed playing as Batman in the Arkham games.
The SDCC panel discussed the ways in which dialogue and tone will differ depending on which character is being played, this shows a welcome focus on narrative, and with Gotham City being the biggest it has ever been, it will probably be a blast to explore and talk to NPCs. Gotham Knights is releasing on October 25th this year and has already showcased all other playable characters in separate trailers.
