Gotham is racing towards its series finale on Fox and fans are chomping at the bit to see how it all comes to an end. The official Gotham Twitter page has released a poster to tease what’s to come:

David Mazouz, who plays Bruce Wayne, has not yet donned the cape and cowl. The main focal point of the series has been on the early career of Jim Gordan and his path to becoming commissioner. It’s not until the end will we see Wayne take up his popular alter ego.
As we can see in the image above, the Dark Knight is indeed rising with a look similar to Nolan’s Batman films. The series as a whole has taken elements of Burton and Nolan during its run, so it will be interesting to see how Mazouz will look in full Batsuit.
Gotham launched in September 2014 to 8.2 million, not too shabby these days for network television. Like Gotham City itself, sunny days didn’t last as the ratings slipped year to year. The show ended the first season with 4.9 million viewers. The ratings saw a continual decline through to this past January. The last episode to air garnered just 2.54 million viewers. The writing has certainly been on the wall to bring the storyline to its end.
Fox made a last-minute decision last Spring to renew Gotham for a fifth and final season. Fans were given a gift, as this renewal gave producers the time they needed to wrap everything up properly. All too often, shows are canceled without much notice. Storylines are cut short and left in limbo. Gotham Writers were able to take the time they had left and focused on Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman.
It’s anyone’s guess how it will all play out, but at least it will all, in fact, end the way the creators envisioned. Gotham’s final two episodes air on Thursday, April 18th on Fox.
