Grimes is giving fans insight into her contentious custody battle with billionaire ex Elon Musk. The singer and the tech mogul were on and off for four years until 2022, welcoming three children — son X AE A-XII, 4, daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, 3, and son Tau Techno Mechanicus, 2. However, less than a year after their breakup, the exes got into a nasty custody battle, and it seems Grimes bore the brunt of it.
The Canadian artist spilled the tea in a lengthy rant on her ex-boyfriend’s platform X. While speaking about her creative process since welcoming kids, Grimes revealed she hadn’t seen one of her three kids for months. “Having babies rips you apart and puts you back together. Babies are ten thousand philosophy classes of s**t. You can only learn from that experience,” she wrote. “Spent a year locked in battle in a state with terrible mothers’ rights, having my Instagram posts and modeling used as reasons I shouldn’t have my kids.” The Genesis singer got emotional, speaking about how brutal the custody battle was on her and Musk.
“Fighting and detaching from the love of my life as he becomes unrecognizable to me, with a fraction of his resources (or iq/ strategy experience), all the while I didn’t see one of my babies for 5 months.”
However, Grimes was quick to cut her confession short, telling fans she had said enough of what could be revealed in public. “Most of my experience these last years should remain behind closed doors,” she urged. Concluding her message, the 36-year-old assured her listeners that the traumatic experience only made her better as an artist. “I’m grateful for every bullet I caught. Cuz I feel on top of the world right now,” she penned.

Grimes’ confession comes after reports that she and Musk reached a common ground in their custody battle. Insiders revealed that the exes went house hunting in Bel Air as part of a new arrangement. Per sources, the Tesla CEO wants a property that can house all of his kids and their mothers. During the real estate hunt, Grimes reportedly viewed a home in Upper Bel Air.
Apart from his three children with Grimes, Musk is a father to nine more kids from two different women. During his marriage to his first wife, Justine Wilson, he welcomed six children — one of whom died in 2002 at 10 weeks old. His relationship with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis resulted in the birth of three children — two of whom are twins.
