Gru and the Minions are ready to take over the world. Streaming charts have shown that people are currently devouring Despicable Me 2 and 3 as the two Illumination films dominate Netflix. This rise comes about a week after the trailer for the fourth installment. The third installment holds the number one place on Netflix this week and has grown in viewership. The second took more time, but it managed to climb to second place.
Despicable Me 2 and 3 Rein Supreme on Netflix Via Streaming Charts
Flix Patrol has highlighted the rise of the two Illumination hits. The second film was behind the Netflix original Orion and the Dark. Despite coming exclusively from the streamer, it was no match for Gru and the Minions. Speaking of Minions, the first standalone film for the yellow creatures and the first Despicable Me are on the charts at number five for the former and six for the latter. As of yesterday, the two movies were at four and five, respectively.
Beyond the animated characters, the competition comes in with Netflix originals and beloved films from other studios. Orion currently holds third place, followed by the beloved Anne Hathaway comedy The Devil Wears Prada. After the two Illumination films at five and six, it goes down to Badland Hunters, Home Alone, Sniper: Reloaded, and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
The rise of people streaming Despicable Me 2 and 3 on Netflix likely comes from the hype building for the fourth film. It will bring back Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Chris Renaud, Dana Gaier, and Pierre Coffin. Newcomers include Will Ferrell, Sofia Vergara, Joey King, Stephen Colbert, Chloe Fineman, and Madison Polan.
Despicable Me 4 will be released in theaters on July 3.
