After what feels like an eternity of speculation, leaks, and rumors, Rockstar Games has finally and officially given fans something concrete to look forward to. Through social media posts, Rockstar confirmed that gamers can lock their Grand Theft Auto 6 preorder copy starting June 25, 2026. Along with it, the company also revealed the long-awaited game’s cover art.
Rumors surrounding GTA 6‘s release and preorder dates reached a fever pitch in early May. Best Buy accidentally fueled speculations after affiliate emails suggested a commission bonus tied to the game would run from May 18 through May 21. Not long after, a Dutch retailer appeared to list GTA 6 Standard Edition, convincing fans that preorders should follow soon.
Rockstar has now put at least part of that rumor to rest. While it confirmed that GTA 6 preorders will begin on June 25 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it stopped short of revealing prices or editions. As expected, there was also no mention of a PC version.
The timing of the announcement lines up neatly with recent comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick. Following GTA 6‘s delay into November 2026, Zelnick reiterated that Rockstar’s ‘major marketing push’ would begin during the summer. Making a late June preorder launch a fitting starting point for Rockstar’s promotional campaign. Zelnick also repeatedly described fiscal year 2027 as a ‘breakout year,’ with GTA 6 expected to be the centerpiece of that strategy.
That said, fans still have one major concern: how much GTA 6 will actually cost. The controversy began when the previously mentioned Dutch retailer listed GTA 6 Standard Edition for $115 USD. This sparked fears that Rockstar could be preparing to raise the AAA gaming’s pricing ceiling yet again — to even higher than $80.
While no doubt the game will be a massive success in spite of its pricing, another rumor suggests Rockstar could be taking extreme measures to keep GTA 6‘s launch under control. A Brazilian media recently claimed that Rockstar might opt out of sending out early review copies, instead inviting select journalists to a private, closed review event.
But for now, at least, one GTA 6 mystery has finally been solved. Fans no longer have to dissect retailer listings or convince themselves that every random date is the real deal. Now, we wait for the game to launch on consoles — PC gamers, unfortunately, will have to be patient a little bit longer.
