Everyone and their grandma are probably waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6, but Rockstar Games apparently isn’t done with GTA 5 just yet. A newly discovered launcher update has GTA Online fans convinced Rockstar could be preparing its biggest official push into the roleplay scene. According to prominent dataminer Tex on X, Rockstar has added ‘nopixel V’ within the Rockstar Games Launcher backend following the latest update.

Their screenshot shows that, between options for Red Dead Online, Red Dead Redemption 2, and GTA Social Club, sits the code string “title_name_rhf434f: ‘nopixel_V'” snugly. Another dataminer, @logan_mcgeeee, also reportedly uncovered image assets prominently displaying the nopixel logo in the Launcher.

While Rockstar has yet to announce anything, the findings have fueled speculation that an official roleplay launch could be getting closer. “So that means players don’t need five m anymore ? They can directly play to through R* launcher ?” asked @NaroliaShivam on Tex’s reply chain. Others are hoping this could pave the way for better roleplaying support in GTA 6. “good news is something like this might be coming to GTA VI,” wrote @NicoGta48313.

For those unfamiliar with the roleplay scene, NoPixel is one of the biggest names in the GTA RP world. Originally launched in 2017 after evolving from an Arma 3 project, the server quickly became a YouTube and Twitch phenomenon. But this addition doesn’t come from nowhere.

After previously butting heads with modders through cease-and-desist battles, Rockstar relented. In August 2023, Rockstar acquired Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM, the modding platforms that power many of GTA 5‘s largest roleplay communities — including nopixel. It announced it wanted to support dedicated roleplay servers and their creators properly. Then, in late 2025, the nopixel team eventually revealed that it had collaborated with Rockstar and would ‘soon’ release the nopixel V server on PC

Despite GTA 6 arriving later this year, adding a massive community-backed feature like nopixel V to GTA Online makes a lot of sense. GTA 6‘s November launch, after all, is only for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. PC players are still waiting for a release date, meaning millions of GTA fans could remain stuck with GTA 5 until 2027 — or worse. An officially supported roleplay experience would give PC gamers another reason to stay in Los Santos while they wait for the next entry.

There’s also the question regarding GTA Online‘s successor. Rockstar has yet to reveal exactly how the next online experience will roll out, while rumors suggest it may not launch alongside GTA 6 on day one. If that’s the case, embracing NoPixel is definitely a smart way to keep GTA 5 thriving while the company prepares the next era of online chaos.
