Many creators have attended to their arts during the breakdowns of the pandemic. One such creator and his team decided to take the COVID-19 situation and spin it into a comedy that forces a couple – on the brink of a breakup – to tolerate one another in the midst of a lockdown. HBO Max today debuted the official trailer for their new original movie, Locked Down.
“It’s a New Dawn, It’s a New Day…” in Locked Down
Locked Down is director Doug Liman’s (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Edge of Tomorrow) newest project that sees Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor at each other’s throats when one is ready to split the relationship. When the time nears, a global virus interrupts their intentions. As they adapt to the uncomfortable atmosphere, a chance to commit a profitable heist from one of their jobs comes up. Linda and Paxton’s (played by Hathaway and Ejiofor, respectively) connection will be tested as they attempt to steal a diamond.
In addition, Locked Down implements various shooting techniques (as seen in the trailer). Standard steady angles are nearly omnipresent, and digital face calls (like Zoom and FaceTime) are utilized to mirror our real-world situation with the pandemic.
Locked Down comes from Warner Bros. Pictures and AGC Studios, with P.J. van Sandwijk, Alison Winter, and Michael Lesslie producing. The supporting cast includes Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon, Ben Stiller, and Ben Kingsley. The screenplay was written by Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Peaky Blinders).
Locked Down will stream on HBO Max next Thursday on January 14. It sure seems like it’ll bring a good mixture of laughs and gasps as Hathaway and Ejiofor team-up while feeling the tension of their sort-of-in-progress breakup.
