An Alabama mom took to TikTok, saying that she is “so upset” after her son had an alleged racist experience at his middle school. Not knowing what to do, she states she shared the video “to express her feelings.” And ask for advice on what to do.

She states that her family immigrated from Vietnam and she was born in the U.S. But in all her time here, the mom has “never experienced racism.” She states that until her son attended sixth grade, he had no problems at school. Until one day he came to ask her what a word meant. She explains that he “asked in the most innocent voice.” The word was allegedly a slur. When she asked where he heard it, he said, “Some kid at school said that to him.” She describes hearing this as “heartbreaking as a mom.”

Yes, it is that serious! I am very upset for my 3rd generation son and I will not tolerate this! Let me know what you would do as a parent of an Asian child. #parentaladvice #racism #asian #vietnameseamerican #tuscaloosaal

The mom states that she can’t believe that in a “melting pot of different cultures,” there’s still racism happening in 2026. The alleged incident made her wonder what parents are teaching their children at home. Despite living in Alabama, she claims her son has never before experienced racism. Following her son’s question, she states she “had to compose herself.” The advice she gave him was to tell the kid, “Stop it, it’s not funny.” The mom says, “He better pray he doesn’t mess with my son again.” Or she intends to go down to the middle school. Her video has over 60,000 views and nearly 3,000 likes since it was posted.

Alabama Mom Receives Mixed Advice

Several in the comments offer the Alabama mother advice on what to do next. Some suggest she should go ahead and take the alleged incident to the school. One says, “I would recommend calling the school vice principal to report the kid.” Another suggests, “You need to talk to his teacher first, and you can bring the issue to the family meeting.” A third comment reads, “Maybe go talk to the school or the parents!! If my kids were being ugly I would want to know!”

However, some have more unique approaches to handling the situation. One says, “Teach your kid to stand up for himself.” Another adds, “Sign him up for MMA, wrestling, or boxing classes ASAP.” Meanwhile, one commenter takes the opposite approach. They suggest, “Best thing to do is just ignore, because they are ignorant.”

She hasn’t commented on whether or not she plans to go to the school and file a report.
