A Washington D.C., woman is going viral after sharing an Uber ride that came with an unexpected passenger: the driver’s dog. While many viewers said the driver should have warned passengers before they got in the car, others couldn’t get enough of the friendly pup, saying they would’ve happily let it ride in the back seat with them.
User @myriah.nicohl shared the clip to TikTok, captioning it, “DC is not a real place. My uber driver had his dog riding shotgun,” before asking viewers, “What would yall do, request a new driver or what?“
The video opens with the puppy attempting to climb into the back seat with the Washington D.C. creator and her friend. “I don’t want to smell like dog,” Myriah says as the puppy continues trying to make its way toward the passengers.
The driver quickly tries to regain control of the situation, repeatedly calling the dog back up front. “Calm down. Calm down. We gotta work,” he tells the puppy while pulling it away from the back seat.
The dog, however, doesn’t appear interested in staying put. The clip ends with the driver still attempting to rein in the pup as it eagerly tries to make friends in the back.
The Comment Section Picks Sides
The Washington D.C. Uber driver’s decision not to mention the dog beforehand rubbed a lot of viewers the wrong way. “He should’ve said something before y’all got in,” one commenter wrote.
Others felt bringing a dog along while driving for Uber was simply unprofessional, noting that not everyone is comfortable around dogs. “My ride would’ve been free because yeah no! Ppl have allergies and dogs stink,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “I love dogs but this is just unprofessional… and not everyone loves dogs.“
Dog lovers, on the other hand, had a very different reaction, admitting they would’ve happily shared the back seat with the puppy. “Y’all ungrateful look at that cutie baby,” one commenter wrote. Another suggested, “Girl just put him back there with yall. He loves you!!“
A few said they would’ve enjoyed the dog’s company while still filing a complaint afterward.”He would’ve been in my lap immediately but that driver would’ve been reported before I even got to my destination,” one person wrote.
Overall, it seems that while plenty of commenters couldn’t resist the puppy’s charm, many felt it was simply professional courtesy to let riders know ahead of time if they’ll be sharing an Uber with anything other than the driver.
