As a proud and committed fighter of democracy I have to admit I’ve been a victim of Helldivers 2 latest enemy: server issues. Like many, I never expected this game to take off as it did. Those who joined the fight in the first entry might remember the low player numbers we had for it. It was normal at the time, after all, it was a niche game. But now, it is a case of a new installment suffering from success. While we are in shock and awe of seeing 400,000 active players on Steam, some of these gamers are at their wit’s end for not being able to join the battle.
Helldivers 2 Players Have Had Enough with Server Issues
Looking back at the launch week of Helldivers 2, it seemed players were okay with all the server issues. You might remember the “failed to join lobby” error if you were a fighter during those days. This plagued every starship and prevented Helldivers from finding a crew to dive into the Galactic War. Still, everyone was okay with that. A lot of messages showing support because developers were working overtime to fix issues. It was a welcoming sight until a few days ago.
Lately, many players, myself included, have noticed something. While we are thankful for the effort the studio is making, it’s been almost two weeks with these issues plaguing everyone’s experience. At first, it was understandable, but when’s enough? Yes, new patches arrive almost daily, but some bring more issues than intended. An example is one bug that didn’t let gamers get rewards. The studio applied a quick solution: double experience and requisition payouts. That’s fantastic. Or it would’ve been if we were able to play the game.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the developers, but it seems there wasn’t a lot of planning for the game’s launch. It could’ve been a case where the studio thought the game wouldn’t hit off and didn’t think about the server capacity. Well, it blew up overnight and will continue to do so. Part of me is worries because we know that, nowadays, gamers have little or no patience. So, how long will they wait in queue to board their starships?
Personally, I don’t mind waiting. I love the game and have spent hours on it, but lately I haven’t been able to play a match. I’m here waiting to do my part for the galaxy, so I hope the studio can do its part, too. This is one of the best co-op experiences I’ve played, and I don’t want it do die anytime soon due to these problems.
