Helldivers 2 is a console exclusive like the original, meaning it can only be played on PlayStation and PC, just like the original. Couple that with the game’s remarkable success, and it led to some rumors about PlayStation acquiring the developer of Helldivers 2, Arrowhead Game Studios. Luckily, the CEO of the studio, Johan Pilestedt, went to social media and confronted the source of these rumors.
Word had been going around recently that Sony was looking to acquire Arrowhead Game Studios and make Helldivers 2, and future IPs, PlayStation exclusives. While Sony distributes the game like the first Helldivers from 2015, the studio itself is not owned by Sony.
Is PlayStation Acquiring Arrowhead Game Studios?
The rumors didn’t have any solid footing until Haothors, a veteran leaker, who also leaked the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima, said that Arrowhead Game Studios had already been acquired by PlayStation and an announcement could happen any minute. But soon after that, Pilestedt said:
This is fake… Unless I’ve missed something.

The quick rebuttal makes it seem like the rumor was groundless, but the uncertainty still has some fans concerned. Right after this happened, the leaker, Haothors, promptly deleted his Twitter/X account and inexplicably vanished. But in any case, when it comes to leaks, it’s always best to take things with a grain of salt.
If Sony were to add Arrowhead Game Studios to its first-party PlayStation lineup, it wouldn’t come as a shock because there is a precedent of this happening in the past. The company acquired studios like Insomniac Games, Bluepoint Games, Bungie, and more.
Helldivers 2 has gained an impressive following since its release, so much so that the developers have had their work cut out for them when it comes to server space. The team is working on expanding server capacity, while the CEO suggests that you should buy Helldivers 2 a bit later once the server issues are dealt with.
