Could Superman himself, Henry Cavill, be the next James Bond? Well, he certainly hopes so.
In an interview recently with GQ Magazine, the 37-year-old actor talked about the possibility of donning the iconic bowtie.
“If Barbara [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli] and Mike [co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity,” said Cavill, “At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting.“
Well, there you have it, folks. Cavill is enthusiastic for the role. Now, it’s all up to the Powers-That-Be…
On a surprising note, the article mentions that Cavill tried out for James Bond at age of 22. And the incredible thing? He apparently came close to landing the role.
That said, stranger things have happened. Henry Cavill lost the part of Superman in the McG-directed Superman: Flyby after the film was cancelled. This clearly didn’t discourage the British actor however, since he won the part again for 2013’s Man of Steel. And, if that wasn’t enough, he’s recently signed on to play the character for three more films.
Given this impressive fact, could history repeat itself again for handsome Mr. Cavill and James Bond? With Daniel Craig set to retire the role after No Time to Die, the opportunity is certainly there.
But could Cavill be playing us? In a 2019 interview with IGN, Cavill expressed his love for The Witcher video games and books and said he’d like to play Geralt in the Netflix adaptation:
“Absolutely,” said Cavill, when asked whether he’d like to play Geralt in the Netflix adaptation. “Yeah, that would be an amazing role.”
Two months after said interview? It was revealed that he was playing Geralt in The Witcher, after all!
So, who knows?
