Recently, some fans tagged Nick Cannon a “deadbeat dad.” However, the TV show host is not letting the tag sail, as he came out to shut down critics. With 12 kids and the promise to make more, it is not hard to see why fans called Nick Cannon a deadbeat dad. These fans believe the comedian can’t be present in all his kids’ lives. While critics recognize Cannon’s financial capabilities, they are confident that he is defaulting in the emotional aspect.
Nick Cannon Defends Himself Against “Deadbeat Dad” Tag
As always, comedian Cannon has been dragged into the court of public opinion for being a deadbeat dad. Cannon was accused of being an absent father to his 12 children. Since the rise in Cannon’s children, the consensus amongst fans is that he will become a bad father. What’s worse, Cannon has his kids spread across six mothers, making it difficult for him to be equally present in their lives.
While the label against him continues to be popular, Cannon thinks the tag is unfair. In an interview with the LA Times, the comedian talked about his children, fatherhood, growing up, and career. Cannon clarified that he wasn’t trying to start up a cult with his teeming number of children. Instead, being from a large family inspired the TV host to create a similar one.
Despite being from a big family and wanting one, having kids in the same group around the same time wasn’t Cannon’s plan. But his people-pleasing personality and multiple lovers got the best of him during the pandemic. Cannon revealed that he only agreed to make babies with his lovers because they were worried about their biological clocks.
On being labeled a deadbeat dad, Cannon had words for the peddlers of the tag that was synonymous with his name. The comedian, who replaced the ailing Jamie Foxx as host of Beat Shazam, confirmed that he knows the label against his name and the arguments supporting those tags. Cannon further stressed that his input in his children’s lives is more than the financial benefits they get from him.
“I hear all the time: ‘You can’t be present for all those children.’ So therefore I get this ‘deadbeat dad’ title,” he said.
Any Plans to Remarry?
Nick Cannon was formerly married to singer Mariah Carey, with whom he shares twins Monroe and Moroccan. The marriage between the former couple ended in 2016 due to incompatibilities in their personalities. Almost seven years after his marriage with the singer ended, Cannon is still uninterested in the institution of marriage. He revealed that he would never buy into the idea of marriage, and his children’s mothers understand that. While the public thinks Nick Cannon is a deadbeat dad, the comedian insists he is a great dad to his children.
