Kevin Feige has recently announced what the Marvel Universe has in store for its upcoming Phase 4. This announcement is quite important, as Endgame finished the story arcs of the original six heroes. Now that the universe is so vast and different than it was 10 years ago, this left us wondering; what was to come of the Marvel Universe?
At San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel revealed their entire line up for Phase 4. The most shocking thing about this reveal is that it will only be spanning over the course of two years (2020, 2021). There will be a total of five movies and five TV shows on the new Disney+ streaming service. These shows will reportedly be tied to the movies, in an attempt to possibly increase subscriptions for Disney+.
While talking with Collider on why this reveal was so different than Phase 3, Kevin Feige alluded back to the 2014 event in which it was announced. He reflected on how when many things are in development, things can change over the course of time. Without the foresight to see what lies ahead, it seems that Marvel will be playing it safe from here out.
“It is the complete Phase Four the way I announced the complete Phase Three five years ago—things can move, things can change as they did if you go back and look at what we talked about five years ago for Phase Three, but we’ve been working on this for quite a while and it’s pretty set. But there are always changes possible.”
This is exciting news because it opens up possibilities for the writers and directors. Instead of feeling constricted four years down the road by an outdated plan, it appears that Marvel will be producing concise Phases that will allow for creative freedom when planning out the Universe’s overall story as a whole.
