I’ll be honest. I can’t really say much about Taiwanese video games. I’m sure some good content comes out of that country. Just nothing specifically on my radar. That changed today when I saw the press release for Heroine Anthem Zero 2 -Scars of Memories- from Taiwanese developer WindThunder Studio. It’s a 2D side-scrolling Adventure RPG. And in motion, it looks pretty awesome. The… uh… grammar in the release was frankly terrible. So no idea how the writing in the game is going to come across. If I had to guess, I’d lean towards terrible. But again, it looks great.
Heroine Anthem Zero 2 has a pretty long list of features. Thes include crafting, cooking, puzzle solving, skill trees, and dialogue choices. In addition, there’s some kind of animal companion system. Seems like it has a lot going on. Not sure if that means it has tons of great content or is a jumbled mess. But it’s only $10.99 so at least it won’t set you back a lot. I usually spend more than that on food every day.
Looking at the previous game in the series, Heroine Anthem Zero -Sacrifice- we can see that it received middling to decent reviews. It also saw a console release on PlayStation 4. No word yet if the sequel will continue that trend or stay exclusive to Steam. Speaking of Steam, as of this writing there is only one review up for Heroine Anthem Zero 2. And it’s positive, so that could be a good sign.
I am in all honestly considering picking this one up. It’s cheap, looks good, and I like 2D side-scrollers. Something about it just seems charming. Not to mention it would give me some experience with Taiwanese games, which could prove to be very rewarding. Plus a title like Heroine Anthem Zero 2 will look neat in my Steam Library. Gives the place some diversity.
