Gwyneth Paltrow is catching the heat for her parenting skills after her daughter, Apple Martin, exhibited inappropriate behavior over the weekend. The 20-year-old, born to the actress and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, has been trying to carve a name for herself, distancing herself from the Nepo Baby label. However, her recent attempt at having the spotlight all to herself wasn’t well-received.
On Saturday, Apple was among the 20 young women to showcase themselves at the prestigious Le Bal des Débutantes held in Paris. The event marked Apple’s first major public appearance and saw her stun in a custom Valentino look that took 750 hours to make. She donned a gorgeous blue strapless gown that featured a giant black bow and layered fringe. Unfortunately, Apple’s Haute Couture look wasn’t what got tongues wagging. Instead, it was her alleged rude behavior to another debutante.
As seen in a viral TikTok clip, Apple seemingly tried to steal the spotlight from another participant. While the ladies were showing off their outfits, one of the debutantes was posing for her turn with the photographers when Gwyneth’s daughter cut in from behind to enter the shot. Posing with her hands on her hip, Apple managed to force the girl out of the frame while the photographer focused solely on her. The ignored debutante, wearing a black dress, awkwardly laughed at the embarrassing moment before waking away. Apple, however, seemed in high spirits, striking more poses before finally leaving. It’s unsure if it was just a playful move from the nepo baby but the optics looked quite bad.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s Daughter Slammed For ‘Mean Girl’ Behavior
Many fans online didn’t take kindly to Apple’s behavior, accusing her of trying to steal the other debutante’s thunder. “She reminds me of one of Cinderella’s evil stepsisters. Lol,” one user wrote of the interaction.
“Apple has been and always will be a mean girl,” a second comment read.
“Why am I not surprised by this? I would imagine her parents have brought her up, saying she is the most beautiful and important person in the world,” a third fan theorized.
“Would you expect anything less from Gwen’s oldest?” a fourth user penned.
“Her father is not like this. This is from Gwyneth,” read another comment.
“High maintenance kid brought up by a high maintenance type, so this is no surprise,” another wrote.
“No surprise. Literally, the Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree . . .” a seventh cheeky response read.
The heavy criticism from fans isn’t shocking given that Paltrow herself once described her mini-me as entitled. In 2020, the Iron Man actress praised Apple for challenging gender norms. “When I see my daughter with her friends, they are so empowered. They have, and I mean this word in the best possible way, a sense of ‘entitlement,’ that’s beautiful,” she said per People Magazine. “It’s not spoiled; [they] are here for what the boys are going to get too.”
Unfortunately, it seems Gwyneth Paltrow might have unknowingly laid the groundwork for her daughter’s criticism.
