The Harry Potter franchise has a way of making even mundane activities enchanting. Buying and selling is a great example. Ever since Diagon Alley charmed readers in the first book, fans have been eager to claim their own piece of magical real estate. With Hogwarts Legacy, that dream is finally a reality. For now, the quest leading to shop ownership is a PlayStation exclusive that only PS4 and PS5 owners can get their hands on. Players on other systems will need to wait until February 10, 2024, for the quest to unlock in this magical RPG. For those ready to take on this challenge, however, here’s how to complete Minding Your Own Business and get your own shop in Hogwarts Legacy.
Speak with Penny to Begin Minding Your Own Business
The quest to get a magical shop of your own in Hogwarts Legacy is called Minding Your Own Business, and to start it you’ll need to speak with Penny the House-Elf. She can be located on the street outside a vacant shop in Hogsmeade. Note that you will need to be Level 18 or higher to trigger the quest, so if you’re lower than that, you’ll have a bit of grinding to do before you can get your hands on a shop of your own.
Speak with Cassandra
Penny will direct you to speak with Cassandra Mason, the shop’s current owner. Cassandra is willing to sell you the shop for 1,500 Galleons but makes it clear that you’ll have a bit of a project on your hands if you want to get it into shape. It’s a bit of a mess inside. There are a number of steps to complete the quest, and the entire thing will probably take you roughly an hour, so make sure you’ve finished any necessary preparations before you begin.
Clean the Shop
When you first enter the shop you’ll find it in disarray. It’s obvious that none of the game’s best characters have popped in to tidy it up recently. Thankfully, you have magic, so cleaning the place up won’t be difficult. Simply cast Reparo a few times around to fix up the trashed environment in no time. Once everything is clean, unlock the chest that Cassandra Mason referenced and climb down into the depths beneath the shop.
Explore What Lies Below
The section below contains two main sections: the Atrium (right) and the Library (left) These can be tackled in whatever order the player likes. You’ll have to do both of them to complete the quest, so it doesn’t make a difference which one you choose to start with. Each of these sections branches to the left and right as well, but again, the order you choose to complete each branch doesn’t matter.
Entertain Fastidio
The next challenge is a confrontation with Fastidio. He’ll pelt you with furniture and stones, but these attacks aren’t particularly difficult to dodge, regardless of your build. Pay attention and stay in motion, and he won’t be able to hit you easily. Once you’ve dodged his attacks for long enough, Fastidio will give up and vanish, leaving you free to continue your explorations. You’re now one step closer to getting your own shop in Hogwarts Legacy.
Explore the Atrium and Play with the Poltergeist
Once you’ve finished dealing with Fastidio, you can proceed to the Atrium. This section requires the same kind of exploration and simple puzzle-solving as the Library and Atrium, so you’ll know pretty much what to expect. You then need to face off against Fastidio again. He’ll send enchanted mannequins after you, but they can be easily defeated with some offensive spellwork. Once they’re gone, you can begin the final two battles of the quest.
Defeat Fastidio’s Monster and Cassandra Mason
The only thing standing between you and your shop now is a pair of boss fights. The first is against Fastidio’s Monster. The second is against Cassandra Mason herself. The first fight is for the most part straightforward, simply requiring you to hit Fastidio’s Monster with your best offensive spells while blocking and dodging its attacks. The final phase of the fight, however, is much more complicated. During it, your controls will be inverted, and the screen will turn upside down, making everything much more difficult.
Defeat Cassandra Mason
Defeating Cassandra can be tricky, but this boss fight isn’t as bad as the inverted controls and flipped screen that you just had to deal with. The most important thing when facing Cassandra is staying on the offensive. Use Protego to protect yourself when Cassandra attacks, but otherwise keep your focus on dealing as much damage as possible. Deflect Cassandra’s projectiles back at her to break her guard, opening her up for devastating follow-up attacks. She’s a talented witch, but you should be strong enough at this point in the game to make quick work of her.
Get Your Own Shop in Hogwarts Legacy
With Cassandra defeated, you’re at last able to get your own shop in Hogwarts Legacy. You can now give your shop a name and start selling goods there to turn a tidy profit. Though most witches and wizards will have bigger things on their minds than just making money, having a neat little side business to bring in some extra cash between adventures never hurt. After all, the magical life can get expensive when you’re taking risks.
Hogwarts Legacy is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
