Gamers anxiously anticipate the sequel to the popular Horizon Zero Dawn that’s only a few weeks away from launch. Fans of the franchise will be happy to know that Guerrilla Games recently announced that Horizon Forbidden West has officially gone gold.

For those unfamiliar with the phrase, when a game has “gone gold,” it means it is practically ready to go, and gamers can rest easy from worries that a delay could be announced. Going gold is the end goal for any game development team and indicates developers have finalized the game’s build that will soon be on its way to the game’s publishers. While most games will go gold a few weeks before launch, some titles go gold several months before. This is usually so developers can focus on a day-one patch, such as is the case with Elden Ring, which will launch February 25 but has already gone gold.

Guerrilla Games posted the following tweet to mark the achievement of Horizon Forbidden West going gold.

We have some exciting news for your all: Horizon Forbidden West has gone GOLD! ✨#HorizonForbiddenWest #RiseAboveOurRuin pic.twitter.com/oRHDtDlxTI

The Studio Director and Executive Producer at Guerilla games, Angie Smets, sent out a message to gamers via a PlayStation blog post saying, “We have some exciting news for you all: we are thrilled to announce that Horizon Forbidden West has gone Gold! This means we are all set to start printing and distributing the game, ready for you to experience Aloy’s journey into the Forbidden West for yourselves in less than a month. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone on the team for what we have achieved together and the community for their continued support and excitement as we’re preparing for launch.”

The upcoming Horizon game will build upon the first title by including new and returning characters, introducing some surprising new creatures and locations, and the opportunity to explore the Forbidden West. Horizon Forbidden West will launch on February 18 exclusively for the PS4 and PS5.
