This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information.

During Aloy’s adventure in Horizon Forbidden West, one obstacle that players will encounter is the Metal Flower, a large mechanical blossom that produces vines that obstruct an entryway. Since computerized vines are directly connected to the flower, players must destroy the metallic flowers in Horizon Forbidden West to advance through the area. To remove these environmental barriers, players will need to progress enough in the Main Story to unlock a special tool for Aloy’s Spear known as the Vine Cutter. With this device equipped, Horizon Forbidden West fans will have no problem getting rid of the flowers’ obstructive vines.

To obtain the Vine Cutter for destroying Metal Flower in Horizon Forbidden West, players must reach the twelfth quest in the Main Story, “Seeds of the Past.” The mission is quite long, but once Aloy defeats a challenging Dreadwing and enters Test Station Ivy, she will be able to craft the Vine Cutter to get into the Data Core.

During “Seeds of the Past,” players will need to traverse through the maze-like layout of Test Station Ivy and get through several locked doors before reaching an exit. From here, Aloy will ride a zipline down to a camp that has access to a Workbench. Approach the table to open the crafting menu and scroll down to Special Gear. Here, players will find the Vine Cutter recipe, which only requires a Dissolution Code Module. The module is a unique resource only obtainable from the lab during this quest.

Once the Vine Cutter has been crafted, Aloy will now be able to destroy Metal Flowers in Horizon Forbidden West. This process is done by striking the flower three times for the blossom to open. Aloy can then stab her Spear into the Metal Flower, using the Vine Cutter’s code to deactivate the device and dissolve the path-blocking vines.

Horizon Forbidden West is available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
