We’ve seen plenty of racing games these days. Some try to capture the beauty of older retro games by making them in the modern-day. Others take a more modern approach, creating beautiful landscapes to race across with friends. I have to admit though, I haven’t seen one that tries to combine the two. That’s where Hotshot Racing comes in, a retro racer that takes a simplistic style and makes it like a modern racer. Announced just now, Hotshot Racing is arriving on September 10th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It will be available for $19.99. You can find a gameplay trailer, showing off the game’s unique style, below.

Coming from Lucky Mountain Games, Sumo Nottingham, and Curve Digital, Hotshot Racing puts you in the shoes of a low-poly racecar. With sharp, low-poly design, beautiful set pieces, and a whole host of cars, you’ll fly down streets at incredible speeds. You can either jump into singleplayer championships, competing for the grand cup, or race against seven other players in head-to-head races across many maps. All around, Hotshot Racing tries to bring retro gameplay to veteran and casual players alike.

Hotshot Racing looks like a ton of fun, and a fresh look into games of the arcade era. Don’t just take it from me though, as Trevor Ley of Lucky Mountain Games believes so as well:

This game has been on a massive journey for the past decade from the initial concepts to Kickstarter pitch and now on the final stretch to launch. We can’t wait to see all the in-game leader-boards light up with the fastest times from players and see multiplayer servers full to the rafters!”

With two great developers and a publisher of awesome games, Hotshot Racing should be a lot of fun at launch. For now, we’d love to hear what you think of the title. Will Hotshot Racing be a great entry into the racing genre? Any racing games of the modern-day hold a special place in your heart? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
