Fans are calling for House of the Dragon‘s cancellation after an underwhelming season 2 finale. The final episode was one of the most anticipated as fans looked forward to how things would play out and an idea of what to expect from the show’s third season. After much hype, HBO aired the final episode on Sunday, but sadly, it left a sour taste in many viewer’s mouths. The jam-packed finale saw forces being mustered across Westeros to begin the journey to converge on King’s Landing for a fight for the throne.
Following House of the Dragon season 2’s finale, the X account Discussing Film revealed that the show would end after two more seasons. Also, they revealed that season three would begin filming in early 2025.
The post read, “HOUSE OF DRAGON will officially end with season 4. Season 3 begins filming in early 2025.”
However, the revelation only left fans feeling enraged. Disgruntled critics took to the comments section to slam the show and its producers. Many even called for House of the Dragon’s cancellation, considering the disappointing season 2 finale.
“Season 2 finale was a massive let down lol,” one fan wrote. Another fan added, “Should just end after season 2 finale with how bad it was. SZN better not be as disappointing as all of season 2.”
A third person shared that House of Dragon season 2 was disappointing. The fan said they expected to see the second major battle but that wasn’t the case.
“Waited two years for one good episode and for the rest to be filler and/or set up,” they added.
Other fans channeled their criticism to the producers’ decision to film two more seasons. According to them, it was simply a case of HBO dragging out the story, which they considered unnecessary.
“Yeah, 4 seasons is a stretch for the material. The new name for this show: House of the Dragging,” one person wrote.
A second fan with similar opinions noted that having a three-season story would be understandable. They said anything more than that would just be milking the show. Meanwhile, others shared that they were frustrated about the production schedules. They revealed having to wait for years before a new season aired was sickening. Hence, it resulted in them being less hesitant about getting into new shows. Meanwhile, HBO has revealed they have plans to release another Game of Thrones prequel. The series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, set 90 years before Game of Thrones, will follow Dunk and Egg.
