With the new part of the game, there is a bunch of new content that you will definitely like. In addition to the usual modes, such as Tower, Versus, or Story, there is also Invasion mode. In this MK1 guide, you’ll learn how the Invasion mode works in Mortal Kombat 1. The new mode is filled with interesting nuances and its own story to be explored. We’ve played it and described everything you need to know about it below.
MK1 Invasion Mode Guide
As soon as you start this mode, you will see a small cutscene with a backstory in which Liu Kang tells about the universe and what happened to it. After that, you’ll find yourself on a map with challenges, and your first location to complete is Johnny Cage‘s house.
The whole essence of the mode is a linear passage through the map, where at each point you will face a battle with opponents. Yes, sometimes the map can branch off in different directions, but eventually, you will only need to go one way to reach the end point. Battles can be of different types and kinds, depending on your progress on the map.
You can fight ordinary enemies alone, or you can face real challenges with multiple enemies taking turns, as well as unique modifications or conditions that you need to meet during the battle to win. In addition, there may be individual attacks on you as you move around the map. These are always unexpected ambushes, so always be prepared to fight back.
Of course, after each battle, you will receive various rewards. It can be regular currency, or some cosmetic items, announcer voices, color palettes, taunts, or finishers. It’s worth noting that it doesn’t matter which character you play as, the rewards are randomly given to different characters from the game.
MK1: How To Prepare for an Invasion Mode
This is where it gets really interesting. Invasion Mode isn’t based on the usual hit-and-run battles. Instead, you have to carefully prepare for each battle, assessing your opponent and their strengths to be ready to counter them. Thus, the game provides you with several options that will allow you to gain an advantage even if you are much weaker than the enemy, namely:
- Character stats.
- Elements.
- Equipment.
Starting the mode from the beginning, choosing a character and Kameo for him, you can improve more and more after each battle. Below, we’ll tell you more about each of the features the game offers.
Character Stats
Each character has its own stats for Invasion Mode, which you can level up. With each new level of your character, you will see a statistics menu where you can distribute stats points to different categories, namely
- Health
- Attack
- Special
- Defense
- Agility
It is intuitively clear what each of them is responsible for, so it is up to you to properly upgrade them depending on the chosen character. Don’t worry, if you get tired of playing as a certain character or need a different one for a certain battle, you can choose it. The level increases equally for all heroes, so you definitely won’t have a weak newbie with the first level in the middle of the story.
Elements
Another interesting novelty is Elements. Each character will have their own element (or several) that will be useful or useless in battle. It all depends on your opponent. It’s like the game rock-paper-scissors, where one object has an advantage over another and so on. The difference is that there are many more elements in MK1 and you need to be well oriented to choose the right character to withstand the enemy’s element.
The developers have taken care of this and created a special table that you can view in the character menu called Elemental Damage Chart. This way, you will know better about all the elements and how to deal with them. If you choose the correct element, you can deal and receive more or less damage. So prepare carefully and choose a character with the right element to defeat the enemy more easily.
Equipment
Another method you can use in combat is to use equipment. In general, it can be divided into 2 categories:
- Talismans: These have consumable charges that you can use to improve your attacks in battle, or to gain new moves.
- Relics: They provide passive buffs and bonuses to your stats in combat.
You can get them in various ways, such as buying them in the store, getting them for a new level of hero, or from chests. Thus, do not forget to visit the shops and the forge that will come across your path from time to time. While in the shops you can buy a lot of cool stuff, in the forge you will have the opportunity to upgrade them to get even more bonuses and benefits.
