The squad-based battles of Helldivers 2 don’t aim for the grittiness of Ready or Not, but things can still get tense when you’re facing an alien horde. Warbonds offer a pleasant distraction from the hardships of the battlefield, allowing you to purchase some shiny new items. Though this equipment might not make a life-or-death difference, sometimes it’s the small things that matter. Besides, no one will fault you for wanting to look your best while you and your friends fight and die for Super Earth. That said, Warbonds function a bit differently than most Battle Passes. So how do Warbonds work in Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2 Warbonds Explained
Like Battle Passes for other games, Warbonds are key to getting your hands on exclusive gear not otherwise available in Helldivers 2. Warbonds do have a major advantage over traditional Battle Passes; however, they don’t expire. If you cannot put in a ton of hours and grind your way through all the content before the next Warbond drops, you won’t lose out on the goodies. Also, unlike loot boxes, you’ll know from the beginning exactly what you’re getting, so you can decide whether or not the Warbonds are worth investing in at all.
Completing missions earns you Super Credits, which you can then spend on Warbonds in Helldivers 2. Items purchasable with Warbonds aren’t all cosmetic, either. Some affect your character’s abilities, raising potential pay-to-win issues and broader balance concerns. The Super Citizen Edition of the game includes the first Warbond (Steeled Veterans), so if you purchased that edition, you won’t have to grind for Super Credits until the next Warbond drops. Buying pricy in-game items isn’t for everyone, but at least looking good on the battlefield might make that pesky “Failed to join Lobby” error easier to swallow.
Helldivers 2 is available for PC and PlayStation 5.
