Lies of P is inspired by The Adventures of Pinnochio by Italian author Carlo Collodi, hence the characters and the main theme. This theme, which is the first one that stands out directly, is Lie. Even when the game loads like “Now Lying”. Besides that, one of the main mechanics of the Lies of P is to shape the story by lying or telling the truth. Throughout the game, you’ll be presented with many different choices and it’s up to you whether or not to lie in these situations. So how does this Lie system in Lies of P work? Let’s take a look at it together.
How Does the Lie System Work in Lies of P?
In the game, as you progress through the story you are presented with many scenarios where you can choose between Truth and Lie. The decisions you make in these situations greatly affect the game. The first example of this is when you try to enter the Hotel Krat after defeating the Parade Master, the first boss of the game. As you try to enter the Hotel Krat, the security guard at the door asks you if you are a human or a puppet. Since puppets are not allowed to enter the Hotel Krat or be near it, you can enter by saying that you are human. However, something changes inside Pinocchio when you do this, but the game doesn’t explain it right away.
The Truth or Lie choices you make will change the locations you go to, the items you find, and even the ending of the game. The game has a total of 3 endings, and two of them are related to the choices you make. You get a “good” ending for telling the truth and a “real” ending if you lie. The 3rd ending of the game is separate from the relationship between Lie and Truth. Long story short, lying or telling the truth affects the ending of Lies of P, the items you find, and the places you go.
