Enter the Cotton’s Kiln of Losomn in Remnant 2, and you’ll face Gwendil the Unburnt, a pyromaniac equipped with napalm bombs. A nasty piece of work, Gwendil sits atop their mini-fortress and will rain down fire from above. All the while, the boss’s ranged minions will annoy you from their perch as Oil Drans chase you about the arena. As a result, the boss fight with Gwendil in Remnant 2 can get quite hectic, despite the mechanics being moderately straightforward.
Remnant 2: Gwendil the Unburnt Boss Fight Explained
After jeering at you from their elevated stone-brick nest, Gwendil in Remnant 2 will begin hurling fiery bombs at you. These explosives will leave behind a lingering flame upon exploding, which can set you aflame if you walk over it. Oil Drans will also spawn and chase you as you attempt to dodge the bombs. Stacks of Mud Rub will definitely come in handy here.
Here’s our recommended strategy to deal with the boss mechanics of Gwendil the Unburnt:
- Prioritize killing Oil Drans whenever they appear.
- Use the slightly elevated platforms in the arena’s corners to get a shot on Gwendil.
- Never remain in one spot and always rotate about the square.
Prioritize Oil Drans and Other Ads
While you might be more concerned with dying to Gwendil’s bombardment, your demise will likely come from the boss’s minions. In particular, Oil Drans, once ablaze, can drain your HP if they can come into physical contact with you. Mud Rub might spare your life once or twice, but it’s best to prevent them from approaching rather than relentless shooting at Gwendil.
Make Use of the Elevated Platforms
Beside the lair’s entrance and diagonally opposite sit two elevated platforms giving you the vantage points you need to fill Gwendil the Unburnt with lead. They also provide a good view of the arena, letting you spot where other ad threats are coming from. However, be wary that you cannot vault over the metal fence of the platform beside the entryway.
Constantly Rotate Your Position
Standing in one place while shooting Gwendil in Remnant 2 is a death sentence, as their napalm will make quick work of your HP. Continuously stay on your feet, moving to spots where no lingering flames are present. It’s better to lose a chance or two to shoot the boss than lose precious HP.

DoT damage is quite effective here since you always won’t have vision on Gwendil the Unburnt due to their tall roost. For instance, we found the bleeding effect of Pipe Bombs quite effective in dealing damage as we rotated from one side to another. Remember that this boss fight must be taken mechanically, as attempting to spam gunfire will cost you some HP from Gwendil’s projectiles or a feisty ad.
