We all know there’s an affinity system in Crimson Desert, and while it is nice to gift certain NPCs some ore, fish, or whatever you have in your pocket, you’ll want to instead focus on the dogs and cats of Pywell. The game, besides allowing you to pet every single cat and dog, also rewards you if you raise their affinity to the highest, not only by giving you a permanent companion you can take on your adventures, but also by giving you some of the most helpful pets in the game. Here, we’ll tell you the easiest way to befriend cats and dogs in Crimson Desert.
How To Raise a Cat and Dog’s Affinity in Crimson Desert

The first thing you’ll likely do as soon as you spot a cat or dog in Crimson Desert is run toward them to pet them. If so, you’ll quickly notice that each time you pet them, you’ll raise their affinity level by 5. Eventually, once the green bar fills up, you’ll be able to “adopt” them and bring them along for the ride, at least when you’re exploring Pywell.
To get started on this pet befriending journey, all you need to do is find a cat or dog and start petting. You can only gain affinity by petting them five times every in-game day, that’s a 25 increase to their affinity every day you spend in the game. However, you can speed this up by dropping food close to them. They will eventually eat it, thus raising your affinity bar further.
But, besides doing a nice thing for the cats and dogs of Crimson Desert, what’s the true benefit of befriending them? Well, cats and dogs can loot enemy bodies and collect materials. When fighting, they won’t raise a paw to help you. Instead, they’ll collect everything enemies leave behind and put it in your inventory, assuming you have the space for it. The same happens with crafting materials. If you mine iron ore, your pet will run toward it to collect it, making the process much faster.
While they are extremely useful, there are also a couple of limitations, such as not being able to help during a fight and disappearing during story moments. But when it comes to exploring Pywell, they will follow you around and collect everything for you, which is great, as there are a lot of things for your characters to grab.
