Everything’s better down where it’s wetter, under the sea. Unfortunately, everything’s also harder to breathe down there. Exploring Minecraft‘s many biomes means adapting to their unique challenges, and the sea is no exception. Thankfully, Mojang anticipated the community’s desire to do a bit of diving. There are several ways to breathe underwater, but you need to do a bit of prep work first. If you manage that, you’ll have a wonderful watery world to explore like a blocky Aquaman. Here’s how to breathe underwater and embrace the aquatic life in Minecraft.
Minecraft Water Breathing Guide
If you want to spend more time with your sea turtle and mermaid friends, water breathing is the way to go. There are a few solutions, including potions that are designed for just this purpose. A Potion of Water Breathing will let you breathe underwater for three minutes, which is fine for most typical tasks. Though other options exist, this one’s the best and simplest. Here’s what you need to do:
- Gather a Brewing Stand, Glass Bottle, Nether Wart, and Pufferfish
- Find a nearby water source (such as a pond or bucket of water)
- Create an Awkward Potion
- Add the Pufferfish to create a Potion of Water Breathing
- Consume the potion to breathe underwater for three minutes
In addition to the Potion of Water Breathing, you can also use a Conduit or Turtle Shell Helmet. When baby sea turtles turn into adults, they drop a scute, and you need five scutes to create a helmet and extend your oxygen limit by 10 seconds. Alternatively, you can construct a Conduit to gain Water Breathing. Doing so requires quite a bit of treasure, however, including Nautilus Shells and Heart of the Sea. It’s not the easiest option, but it’s worth knowing if your future lies beneath the waves.
