How To Capture & Rescue Animals in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has brought many new features for players to make deliveries way more engaging. However, it’s also brought many things for players to recover, including animals. These little creatures roam around the map, and Sam might encounter a few of them during his travels. Yet, leaving them outside isn’t a great idea, as they might perish once the Timefall appears. Fortunately, there are a few preppers out there willing to take them in, so here we’ll tell you how to capture and rescue animals in Death Stranding 2.

How To Capture Animals in Death Stranding 2

Some might think that the process is like in Metal Gear Solid V with Sam using tranquilizers and whatnot. However, that’s not the case here. To capture animals in Death Stranding 2, all you need to do is approach them and press the button prompt, which is square. Once that’s done, Sam will put the animal inside a container, and he can carry it on his back or inside a vehicle. Like other cargo, animals should be handled with care, and dropping the container will damage the creature or worse.

Rescuing Animals

Once you capture an animal, you’ll need to deliver it to safety, and there are two ways to go about it. First, you’ll need to unlock the Animal Shelter, which happens normally as you progress through the story and meet the preppers in charge of this location. We won’t spoil who they are, but it will be a pretty great surprise for many. Once you bring them into the network, you can start delivering animals.

However, if you don’t have the time to do that, you can always entrust your cargo, or in this case, animals, to others. To do so, head to a facility and deposit the animal there. Other porters will arrive to take care of these creatures.

What Happens If There Are Animals During Timefall?

This is an interesting detail on Kojima’s side, albeit a bit sad. If you see animals outside during Timefall and fail to collect them fast, they will die. However, Sam can approach the location where the animal passed away and create a grave for them. This is at least one way to say goodbye to them respectfully. Ideally, however, you’d want to rescue all of them, so if you want to go animal-rescuing, check the weather report, which unlocks after Rainy joins the DMH Magellan.
