The Dab is a seasonal fish that you can catch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons only during the Fall season, which runs from October to April in the northern hemisphere and April to September in the southern hemisphere. It’s an ocean fish as well, so you will need to do your fishing on the beach and are worth 300 Bells when sold at Nook’s Cranny. Here’s where you can catch a Dab in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How To Get a Dab in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Dabs are caught in the ocean during Fall in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. These fish are active at all times of day during the season and are medium-sized shadows in the ocean. You can either fish for them from the beaches on your own island or by heading to one of the smaller islands via boat or plane. While fishing can be mostly luck-based when it comes to catching a specific fish, there are a few ways to help speed up the process.
The first is to craft bait using Manila Clams, which can be found by digging on the beach. Throwing bait in the water will cause a couple of fish to spawn. Another method is to just sprint near fish that aren’t the right size shadow, in this case medium, to clear them out and let new fish spawn. It seems like a limited number of fish can be spawned at a time and it’s more efficient to scare them away rather than fish them out. Other than that, you will need to just keep catching medium-sized fish shadows until you find a Dab, although it’s a relatively common fish during the Fall season. In case you forgot, equipment can break in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so we suggest bringing a spare fishing rod.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available on Nintendo Switch.
