One of the first Bug-type pocket monsters that Trainers will be able to catch during their adventure in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the Scatterbug, a small, worm-like creature with a similar appearance to Caterpie. Scatterbug first appeared in 2013’s Pokémon X and Y, 3DS-generation titles that introduced Generation VI to the franchise. This Bug-type Pokémon is unsurprisingly weak and not fit for challenging battles in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, once it has evolved into Vivillon, Trainers will find more than enough use for it against opponents weak to Bug- and Flying-type moves.
Where to Find Scatterbug in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
To find and catch Scatterbug in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Trainers must explore Southern Paldea, the starting area of the game. During the tutorial portion of the main campaign, players will meet Nemona, who will teach Trainers how to catch Wild Pokémon. During this sequence, players will explore a small grassy field where they can encounter Scatterbug.

According to Gamepur, Scatterbug and its Shiny variation can be found in Area One of the South Province in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It can appear at any time of day, so Trainers do need to fret about exploring this zone during a specific hour. Players who feel they need to weaken it for a catch can use any pocket monsters with Fire-, Rock-, or Flying-type elements to deal effective damage against the Bug-type creature. However, since this is the beginning area of the game, most of the wild pocket monsters roaming the area are extremely easy to catch. In other words, Trainers will likely be able to instantly catch Scatterbug with a Poké Ball.
As for evolving Scatterbug, Prima Games states that Trainers can perform an evolution into Spewpa once the Bug reaches Level 9. After hitting Level 12, Spewpa can then become Vivillon, the third and final evolution form of the pocket monster family. Similar to past titles, leveling one’s Pokémon is moderately straightforward. One of the best places to grind levels for this weak Bug-type monster is Area One of Southern Paldea, as most of the wild creatures within this area are easy to defeat.
