Completing “The Dark Castle” will finally let you have a “sneak peek” at unraveling the mystery of Skull Rock in Dreamlight Valley. The quest involved is called “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place” and begins once the Pillar of Unity has been activated. However, knowing where to find the pillar’s orb can be challenging, as many players will likely overlook the secret puzzle at Skull Rock completely. Fortunately, the solution is relatively simple when you put together the puzzle pieces, or “pillars,” in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

To activate the Pillar of Unity in Dreamlight Valley, you must find the Orb of Unity. Luckily, no tricky puzzles or challenging quests are involved in acquiring it. Instead, all you must do is return to the spot where you encountered the Forgotten in the Dark Castle from The Remembering update. Here are a few steps you can follow:

  1. Head to the portal to the Dark Castle in the Plaza.
  2. Enter the castle and walk over to the right side of the first-floor door.
  3. Stand next to the glowing square on the floor and “Enter” to be teleported to the Orb of Unity in Dreamlight Valley.
  4. Take the orb and head to the island of Skull Rock.

Next, you can activate the Pillar of Unity in Dreamlight Valley by placing the Orb of Unity into its hollow point. This action will trigger the “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place” quest and cause brightly lit runes to appear around the pillar. At first, the symbols on the ground might utterly confuse players. However, if you look closely, you’ll notice that the runes are the same signs on the pillars in the regions of the Valley.

Therefore, to activate Skull Rock in Dreamlight Valley, you must gather all eight pillars together in front of Skull Rock. Each obelisk must be placed atop its corresponding rune in the sand; otherwise, the puzzle cannot be solved. If you’re wondering how the pillars can be moved, you’ll need to use your Furniture Editing Mode to have them relocated. Here is a table to visualize how you are supposed to move them about:

Pillar of Love Pillar of Remembrance

Once the puzzle has been solved, a brief cutscene will play of the Skull Rock moving. As of The Remembering update, this event will not bring about any new locations or quests to the game. Instead, it serves as a teaser of sorts to ensure players more Dreamlight content is on the way. Nevertheless, completing “Between a Skull Rock and a Hard Place” in Dreamlight Valley is recommended as means to prepare for what’s to come.

To finish up the quest, speak to Merlin about what happened to the Skull Rock after you gathered the pillars together. He’ll briefly mention that he’ll research what happened, after which the quest will be complete.
