In Dead Island 2, your final major confrontation is with the infamous Dr. Reed. It’s poetic that the storyline bows out with an epic zombie battle. That is why you must have the best setup for your Slayer before you reach this conclusion. You will face numerous zombies, and they can quickly overwhelm those who are not prepared.
Let’s start the Dead Island 2 “Hollywood Ending” quest. It begins after you depart from the others near the helicopter in “The End of the Line” quest. From there, do the following:
- Climb the fence and head right down the red carpet
- (Optional) Inspect and loot what you can
- Walk to the very end of the red carpet and defeat the zombies to your left
- Investigate the keycard reader and the switch to raise the shutters
- Climb the broken Romero hand statue and enter the building through the gap
Once inside the Re-Aging Clinic, investigate the security keypad near the back by the door. You’ll learn you need a keycard. Thankfully, it is directly behind you. Check under the desk by the chair. When you retrieve and use it, we’ll move one step closer to the Dead Island 2 ending and facing Dr. Reed.

Next up in Dead Island 2’s “Hollywood Ending” quest is more explanation and looting. You will find a workbench in the next room if you need to use it. It is an opportunity to check your gear for the upcoming battle.
If there is nothing else you need, examine the desk. You must crouch to click on the red button. It will open a hidden door, and you’ll continue through it to further the quest. There is more looting you can do along the way. Otherwise, follow the quest marker until you enter the door and trigger a cutscene with Dr. Reed and his daughter, Tisha.
During this scene, you’ll learn a terrifying truth: everyone has the Autophage lying dormant. Dr. Reed sacrifices those in L.A. in an attempt to develop a cure. Soon after, Dr. Reed undergoes a horrific transformation into a Mutator with a unique name: The Reubenator.
Battling The Reubenator
The final confrontation in the Dead Island 2 “Hollywood Ending” is a fierce battle with The Rebuenator. If you’ve arrived with the best weapons and skills, fighting him should be similar to your average Mutator. What makes it hard is that several zombies will break out and confront you.
These zombies range in types. You can face the usual Walkers and Runners. However, you can also see variants like Screamers and Slobbers. It helps if your Slayer has good crowd-control skills like Warhead, Overhead Smash, Volatile, and Seismic Stomp. Don’t forget your Fury Mode.
Once it’s over, a brief cutscene will play as you pass out. When you awaken, you’re in the final stretch of Dead Island 2 “Hollywood Ending.” Search for extra loot like the Journal: Apex Variants and some Superior weapons. Don’t wait too long. Some zombies will begin to stagger in. Once dealt with, follow the quest marker. You’ll run into several other zombies. Thankfully, they all have low health, so one or two hits will kill them.
When you’ve escaped, kill or run past the zombies. Either way, you must “Get to da chopper!” as the quest states. The final cutscene will play in which you stop Emma from killing Sam B by handing over the one-time cure. As your friends depart on the helicopter, you stay behind with the intention of finding the missing Tisha.
Of course, Konradt and her friends watch you. She doesn’t believe that’s the only reason you stay. You’ll soon get a rather epic third-person view of your Slayer as they pick up Sam B’s hammer and wail away at the horde of zombies. And the Dead Island 2 “Hollywood Ending” goes out in a spectacular and bloody fashion.
Dead Island 2 is available on PC, PS5/PS4, and Xbox One/Series.
