The main plot of Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s new expansion, A Rift in Time, has players hunting down pieces of the Scarab Key. Once the key is assembled, you’ll be able to find the Jewel of Time and help out Jafar, but the process of finding the pieces of this long-lost key is a journey in and of itself. The questline will have both Rapunzel and Gaston pointing you toward half the Scarab Key. After you’ve found the first piece in Gaston‘s quest, “The Wander of the Dunes,” it’s time to find the second half of the key in “The Wild Tangle’s Swarm.”
Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Wild Tangle’s Swarm Quest Guide
Before you complete “The Wild Tangle’s Swarm” quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, we recommend that you finish “The Ancient Door” quest first. Doing Rapunzel‘s intro quest will have you familiar with her character already, and more importantly, you’ll have already unlocked the Grove for 4000 Mist. If you haven’t done “The Ancient Door” already, you’ll still be able to complete this quest, but you’ll have to unlock the Grove regardless.
“The Wild Tangle’s Swarm” will begin automatically as soon as you complete Gaston’s previous quest, “The Wanderer of the Dunes.” At the end of that quest, he said he needed a few hours to “find himself again,” so wait a few real-world hours and then track Gaston down to begin this quest. He’s usually in Gastonia, which is accessible through the Oasis.
Talk to Gaston, and he’ll explain that he’s looked everywhere for the other half of the Scarab Key, but he can’t find it anywhere in the Glittering Dunes. He’ll mention that he’s seen a “jungle girl” around the Wild Tangle and thinks she might know where the other half of the key is. Your character will figure out he means Rapunzel and offer to go talk to her. Gaston will offer to come along, but pick a task for him to do instead – it doesn’t matter which one you choose since he’s not coming along, regardless.
The Wild Tangle’s Swarm: Finding the Swarming Insects
For the first step in “The Wild Tangle’s Swarm” quest, find Rapunzel. She’s usually somewhere in the Wild Tangle biome, but she can occasionally be found wandering anywhere on Eternity Isle. Once you find Rapunzel, talk to her and explain that you’re looking for a key shaped like a Scarab.
Unfortunately, Rapunzel will say she hasn’t seen anything like that, but there is a spot in the Grove where she keeps hearing buzzing insects. There might be a connection between the insects and the key, and your character will offer to go check out the swarm and take pictures for Rapunzel.
Head into the Grove, and you’ll find the Swarming Insects surrounding an odd stone pedestal on the eastern edge of the area of the entrance to the Lagoon. Use your camera to snap a picture of the swarm, then take it back to Rapunzel.
The Wild Tangle’s Swarm: Creating Carnivorous Flower Arrangements
Once you show Rapunzel the picture of the Swarming Insects, she’ll suggest using the plants around the Wild Tangle to make Carnivorous Flower Arrangements to get the swarm away from whatever it’s protecting.
To craft Carnivorous Flower Arrangements, you’ll need to gather the following materials:
- 4x Green Fly Traps
- 4x Purple Fly Traps
- 4x Red Pitcher Plants
- 4x Yellow Pitcher Plants
- 12x Tropical Wood
All of the necessary materials can be found without leaving the Wild Tangle. Fly Traps, both green and purple, can be found in the Grasslands and the Promenade. Pitcher Plants can be found in the Grove and the Lagoon, and Tropical Wood can be found near trees anywhere in the biome.
After you’ve collected all of the materials, head to one of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Crafting Tables to make two Carnivorous Flower Arrangements. You’ll find them under the Furniture tab in the crafting menu. With two Carnivorous Flower Arrangements made, head back to where you found the Swarming Insects earlier. Place the flower arrangements down near the swarm, and you’ll be told it’s going to take a while for them to work.
While the flower arrangements do their job, head back to Gaston to check on how he’s doing. Surprising to absolutely no one, he hasn’t completed whatever task you gave him earlier. It’s best to return to him once you’ve found both pieces of the Scarab Key, so head back to the Wild Tangle for now. The carnivorous plants will have done their jobs by the time you return, dispelling the swarm to reveal the other half of the Scarab Key. Pick it up to move to the next step of “The Wild Tangle’s Swarm” quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
The Wild Tangle’s Swarm: Restoring the Scarab Key
Once you have the other half of the Scarab Key, you’ll need to talk to Jafar at a Hologram Station. The nearest one is located by the well in the Grasslands – go to it and speak to Jafar. Your character will explain that the jungle piece of the Scarab Key is damaged and needs repair before it can be fully restored.
Jafar will explain that in order to repair the key, you’ll need a Timebending Table, a source of Mist, and Dream Shards. He’ll give you the Scarab Piece Restoration Instructions, which you can read by interacting with it in your inventory. Before you can start repairing the key, you’re going to need to find a Timebending Table – Merlin gives you one in the “Village Project: Timeless Treasure” quest, but there’s also one on the Secluded Beach east of the Courtyard.
To repair the Jungle Scarab Piece, you’ll need:
- 1x Jungle Scarab Piece
- 3x Dream Shards
- 1000 Mist
Dream Shards are found by digging up the sparkling spots found around Dreamlight Valley, clearing Night Thorns, or feeding critters their favorite food. Mist can be collected by clearing Swirling Sands with the Royal Hourglass or completing Mist Duties.
Once you’ve got all of the ingredients, head to a Timebending Table to craft the Jungle Scarab Piece. With it repaired, talk to Jafar one last time to complete “The Wild Tangle’s Swarm” quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Gaston’s next quest, “Diamond in the Rough,” will automatically start, so be prepared to track down the missing Jewel of Time!
To recap, here’s how “The Wild Tangle’s Swarm” is completed:
- Speak with Gaston and then to Rapunzel.
- Snap a photo of the swarming insects in The Grove.
- Craft two Carnivorous Flower Arrangements using materials found in The Wild Tangle.
- Restore the Jungle Scarab Piece using a crafting bench.
