How To Defeat Mime Bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

If you thought Chromatic bosses were challenging in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, wait until you meet Mimes. These pesky optional foes can be some of the most annoying for the current expedition. While they don’t have a lot of elemental attacks or wild gimmicks, they don’t take a lot of damage and have erratic moves, meaning that you need to strategize when fighting them, especially on harder difficulties. For that reason, we’ve prepared a quick guide to help you defeat these Nevron.

As mentioned, Mimes are entirely optional in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. You’ll never find them as bosses safeguarding a main story objective. Instead, you’ll encounter them when going off a beaten path in certain areas. If you decide to engage them, though, you’ll get a few useful rewards, with cosmetics being some of the most notable ones. Yet, they are not a walk in the park. They can take a lot of hits and hit like a truck. So, here’s the overall strategy:

  • Mimes do not have weaknesses, which means you’ll have to focus on pure raw damage.
    • Cast Powerful with either Verso or Gustave (depending on how far you’re in the story).
  • Depending on the Mime, you might have a lot of turns before the enemy attacks; if so, break its Shields with Maelle first.
  • After that, you’ll notice the Mime is not taking a lot of damage, so you need to focus on heavy-hitting attacks.
  • For this fight, a good composition is Verso/Gustave, Maelle, and either Sciel or Lune. We prefer Lune due to her stacks.
  • You need to focus on attacks that break, since those are the ones that will cause more damage to the Mime.
  • Once broken, the Mime will take increased damage from all sources, and it won’t put up its defenses again.
  • When the Mime performs the hand-to-hand combo, you need to dodge three times.
    • Dodge as soon as the first attack with its head goes off, wait for the small delay, and dodge twice quickly. If you’re comfortable with it, try parrying the full combo for extra damage.
  • Its worst combo is the Strange Combo. It will hit quickly with an invisible hammer. You can still see its outline, though.
    • This combo will deliver four hammer blows with somewhat easy timing. However, these moves hit hard, so it’s better to dodge them, as parrying can be quite difficult.

In truth, Mimes only have these two combos, and the only difference is the damage output and HP numbers. Sciel is the best character for this fight, followed closely by Verso. Both have excellent breaking capabilities. If you’re struggling, swap Maelle for Lune to run a double healer composition, where Sciel can also heal by consuming her stacks. Besides that, bring someone who casts Shell on others; it will help during the combos.
