One of the most original creatures in Monster Hunter Wilds has to be Rompopolo, not because of the name only, but because of its mechanics that can cause a lot of havoc during a hunt. Since it comes poison with explosive gas and fast attacks, this creature won’t be the most fun to face. However, hitting its weak spots isn’t that challenging, so, in theory, you shouldn’t have a hard time once you figure out this monster’s weaknesses. For that, we’ll help you here with them and share a few tips to let you take this foe down.
Rompopolo Weaknesses

While Rompopolo has only one elemental weakness, it has two weak spots that you can target for serious damage, which is quite nice, as other Monster Hunter Wilds creatures usually have only one weak spot. However, hitting those parts might be the real challenge, as this creature tends to move a lot and deploy explosive gas to keep you at bay. If you’re fighting Rompopolo, bring the following elements:
- Water (Super Effective)
- Sleep, Paralysis, Blastblight, Stun, and Exhaust (Effective)
Out of all the above elements, water is the best one. If you have water-infused Dual Blades, you should bring them to the fight, as they are the best weapon to use to take down this monster. If not, the other elements will work, too, but it will take a bit longer for them to affect the creature.
In terms of weak parts, you’ll want to aim at its head and tail, with the latter being a priority. Rompopolo will use this part to poison you and inject explosive gas into the ground, so if you break it fast, you won’t have to deal with these things.
Hunt Strategies

Once you engage Rompopolo, stay on its tail at all times. You’ll notice that, before an attack, Rompopolo’s tail will start to grow. Hit the growing part as fast as possible to shrink it and prevent the attack. Also, you can break some parts while doing this, so always focus on the tail. Aside from that, these are a few other tips we have for the encounter:
- When angered, Rompopolo will inject gas into the ground faster.
- Throughout the fight, Rompopolo sticks its stinger into the ground and creates a few gas explosions. You can identify them by looking at the vents coming from the ground. When you see any of them, run away. If Rompopolo is angry, it will create even more gas explosions, and during this time, you should keep your distance, as approaching the creature will be almost impossible.
- Jumping attacks are key for this fight.
- Not all weapons can perform jumping attacks, but if the one you’re using can spam them, go ahead. The easiest way to defeat Rompopolo and avoid its explosions is by mounting it and hitting its tail. It won’t move its tail around so much, so you’ll have the chance to get many hits in and finish with a draw attack.
- Bring as many antidotes as possible.
- It might go without saying, but with all the poison around, bring all the antidotes you can. If possible, craft a few herbal medicines, too.
If you’ve wounded the tail enough, you can hit this monster’s head, but try to avoid its melee combo. It will hit four to five times with its claws, and it can also do a lot of damage, so either block or dodge and then move in to get a few hits in.
