In Diablo 4 Season 2, Malignant Burrow is a special underground location that, when activated, serves as a summoning point for the end-game boss Echo of Varshan. These burrows are distinct from the main game world and can be accessed through small holes or craters found in the game. The location will be marked on the map once you are near it, but to cut the time roaming around Sanctuary, we have a precise location where you need to head to if you want to fight this end-game boss.
Diablo 4: Malignant Burrow Location
- Malignant Burrow is situated in the northeast of Hawezar, near the Tree of Whispers.
- To reach this location, it’s crucial first to complete all the main missions in the game.
- After completing the main missions, you’ll be given the quest called “Whispers of the Dead.“
- To find the Tree of Whispers, look for the map icon—a red tree with a white skull at the top.
How To Activate Malignant Burrow
You can activate the Malignant altar to summon the boss by heading through the tunnel and eliminating a few enemies on the way. Once you get to the altar, click the ‘Summon’ button. However, before this can be done, you need a couple of items, which depend on your current World Tier:
- World Tier 3 requires a Gurgling Head, Blackened Femur, and Trembling Hand.
- For World Tier 4, you’ll need an additional Malignant Heart.
To get these items, you can:
- Open Whisper Caches by offering 10 Grim Favors to the Tree of Whispers.
- Collect them as random drops from Grotesque Debtors.
Alternatively, craft these body parts of Varshan at the Alchemist using specific materials:
- Gurgling Head: Four Baleful Fragments
- Blackened Femur: Four Coiling Wards
- Trembling Hand: Four Abstruse Sigils
Once you’ve gathered the necessary components, head to Malignant Burrow through the tunnel. Inside, locate the Malignant Altar. Interact with the Altar, and then click the “Summon” button to initiate the boss fight.
Echo of Varshan Boss Fight Guide
Once you activate the Malignant Burrow, you will start the Echo of Varshan boss fight, although a challenging one, shouldn’t be a problem. We suggest you are at least level 55+ if you are on World Tier 3. Follow these tips if you are struggling in the battle:
- In the first state, he will use Triangle of Death attacks, so keep your distance to dodge damaging zones. Do not attack here, as you will end up dead soon enough.
- The next stage is when he summons Elite. However, you should ignore them as they deal minimal damage. In this state, you should focus on Echo of Varshan as this is your main damage-dealing opportunity.
- He will then transgress into the melee attack state, where you must use evasive moves to avoid tentacle attacks. Heal if needed; do not waste your abilities in this state.
- CC skills are a benefit here to slow Echo of Varshan down. This can improve your damage-dealing window, and you will easily avoid his incoming attacks.
- Focus on dodging the attacks whenever possible. Practice makes it perfect. You should be able to deal with Echo of Varshan boss fight alone, but if in a group, work together to get Echo of Varshan down quickly.
