If you are thorough in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will come across all companions who can join your party. If you find them, then you can create the perfect party for what you aim to accomplish. Even if you choose not to have someone join you, they can stay in the camp for you to develop a relationship with and go on quests to further explore their personal story. Many of these characters can be found early in the game throughout the Wilderness. Let’s review each character and see where and how you can get them to tag along on your Dungeons & Dragons-styled adventure.

All Companions in Baldur’s Gate 3

Each of these companions can be yours to recruit and use, but be careful, as you can lose them just as easily as you recruited them based on your choices and playstyle.

Shadowheart

Shadowheart takes some steps to make her available, unlike some other companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. First, you must free her from a pod on the Nautiloid, or she will not survive the crash. When saved, she will join you on your quest to escape before the crash. As you wake up on a beach, head up the coast to find her unconscious. You can try to grab her artifact, but if you want to put a good foot forward, wake her up. Either way, you will have her join your party if you need a Cleric.

Astarion

From where you are, go southwest from the crash site to find Astarion. The Rogue vampire spawn will be around the cliffside, where he will attack you. During the scene, just talk him down, and he will calm down to release you. Talk for a moment, and he will join your side. He is handy if you need sneak attacks and talents in pickpocketing and lockpicking.

Gale

As you go toward the heart of the crash, there will be a slope through the destroyed Nautiloid. Go up there, and you will see a purple portal. Don’t be afraid of it or the sound of someone speaking. Interact with it and pull the man who put his arm out for help. You will release Gale, a Wizard who delivers more charm and kindness than other companions in Baldur’s Gate 3. As he joins your party, you will unlock a waypoint for Roadside Cliffs, which you can teleport to from any other waypoint.

Lae’zel

If you rescued Gale, you would not be far from Lae’zel. From the Roadside Cliffs waypoint, go north to find two Tieflings who have captured the woman who helped you on the Nautiloid. Deal with the Tieflings however you want, and you will be able to rescue Lae’zel. Shoot her down with a bow, and the cage will break. When she is down, you can talk to her for a Fighter to join your party.

Wyll

Of all the companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, Wyll is one of the easiest to join you without too much extra leg work. The Warlock can be found in Druid Grove, which you must reach for story-related purposes. You will find some children being trained toward the center of the settlement. One of the people there, Wyll, can be recruited after a quick chat.

Karlach

Talking to Wyll starts a quest to hunt down a devil. Due to his information, she is marked on your map to find. Don’t go with his quest to kill her; instead, interact with her when you meet. It turns out he has misinformation about her identity and temperament. If you need a Barbarian to act as your tank, then Karlach will be the perfect choice. You can bury the hatchet between her and Wyll to maintain both, whether they are simultaneously in your party or one of them rests at the camp.

Halsin

Out of all companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, Halsin requires steps that will move the story forward for Druid Grove. It requires time-consuming work as you go through a Goblin camp where Halsin is captured. After completing this quest, he will return to get Druid Grove to regain control from Kagha. When everything is settled, you can recruit him to join the party.

Minthara

The Goblin camp continues to deliver potential party members. In the Shattered Sanctum, she will be an antagonist. You must make the right choice by siding with her to go against Druid Grove. She could be found again in Act 2 in Moonrise Towers, depending on her fate. She is held captive and tortured, and you can decide her future once again. If you rescue her, you can have her join your party.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
