In MHW, Kjarr weapons are the ones to get if you are building Elemental damage-focused sets. Most players will recommend them because the equipment has high Element stats even before you Custom Augment it. Not to mention that they come with Critical Element Skill, which gives bonus Element damage to critical attacks, too. But if you did not find the weapon tree when you go to the Smithy and open the crafting menu, don’t be surprised.
Monster Hunter World: Where Can You Get Kjarr Weapons?
In both base MHW and Iceborne expansion, Kjarr weapons can be obtained by defeating Kulve Taroth and/or collecting its materials. The Kulve Taroth High Rank Siege and Master Rank Event Quest rotate bi-weekly with Safi’Jiiva Siege.
However, it’s not recommended to run the Kulve Taroth Siege at this point of the game’s lifespan, especially if you have the Iceborne expansion. First, it’s because the High Rank Kulve Taroth Siege takes a lot of time to be completed.
You have to collect shinies and destroy parts throughout the quest to fill up the Pursuit and Reward Level bars to get the best loot. Simply put, completing the Kulve Taroth Siege by breaking its horns at the final phase rewards you with three tiers of Kulve weapons:
- Kjarr: Rarity 8, has one Augment slot but comes with the Critical Element Skill.
- Taroth: Rarity 8, only has one Augment slot but has higher Element/Status stats and a better Decoration slot.
- Taroth: Rarity 7, has two Augment slots.
The higher your Lobby’s Reward Level, the better chance you and your friends have of getting the Kjarr weapons as well. The rewards are given randomly at the end of the Siege by speaking to the Hub Gal NPC.
Second, because the Siege is only for High Rank and takes time, most players end up skipping it. Meanwhile, you will need a full 16-player Lobby to fill up the Pursuit and Reward Levels as fast as you can since the progress is shared between all teams.
The third and last reason is that it’s much faster to simply run the Master Rank Kulve Taroth Event Quest and meld Kjarr weapons through Elder Melder. Through the “MR★6 Eternal Gold Rush” Event Quest, there’s no need to fill bars; you just have to kill it like any other Elder Dragon. Materials you get from shiny drops and carving the body and horns can then be used to roll Kjarr weapons through the Kjarr Alchemy option. The option is unlocked in the Awakening Alchemy menu after you’ve beaten the Master Rank Event Quest and talked to Elder Melder in Seliana.
Both Taroth and Kjarr weapons you get from Elder Melder’s Kjarr Alchemy are going to be at High Rank rarity. To raise them to Rarity 11 and 12, head to the Smithy and upgrade the Kjarr weapons you want using Master Rank Kulve Taroth materials.
To recap, here are the ways you can get Kjarr weapons in MHW Iceborne:
- Completing High Rank Kulve Taroth Siege with high Reward Levels.
- Completing “MR★6 Eternal Gold Rush” Event Quest and meld them through Kjarr Alchemy in Master Rank.
