Getting Metal Ingots in Ark: Survival Ascended is one of the biggest steps between the beginner and expert stages of the game. Once you get Metal Ingots, you can craft more effective and efficient tools, stronger weapons, and armor that will last for more than two smacks from a Stego’s plated tail. While Metal Ingots are relatively easy to get with a Refining Forge, the process can seem pretty difficult for a complete beginner. However, you shouldn’t worry. We’ll walk you through the whole process. Let’s take a look at how to get Metal Ingots in Ark: Survival Ascended.
Getting Metal Ingots in Ark: Survival Ascended
The process of getting Metal Ingots can take a while, but it’s very well worth it in the end. First, you must have some stone tools, specifically a Stone Pick. You’ll use that Stone Pick to mine rocks near the water or metal veins high up in the mountains. For this guide, we’ll focus on the rocks you can find on the beach and near the water. Mine them until you see some metal drop.
That metal can then be used on a Refining Forge in order to smelt it down into Metal Ingots. However, you’ll need to fuel the Refining Forge with Wood, Thatch, or Sparkpowder in order to smelt your metal into ingots.
How To Craft a Refining Forge
A Refining Forge is one of the first resource-heavy items you will craft in-game, and it can take some time to collect all the resources. You’ll need to have:
- 40x Fiber
- 65x Hide
- 20x Wood
- 5x Flint
- 125x Stone
To get Fiber, empty your hands and unequip whatever tool or weapon you are using. Head to any bush or foliage on the ground and press E on your keyboard to collect berries and Fiber.
Collecting Hide takes a bit more effort since it must be harvested from a dead creature. Once you defeat a dinosaur, you should use an axe rather than a pick to collect Hide from its body. While axes collect more Hide, picks collect more Raw Meat.
Wood can be collected from trees using a hatchet or axe, and Flint and Stone can both be collected from rocks. When you approach a rock to harvest it, remember that axes and hatchets yield more Stone, while picks yield more Flint.
Now, head into your inventory with all the resources and tab over to the Crafting menu. From here, you can craft the Refining Forge and place it in the world using the E key on your keyboard.
To summarize, in order to get Metal Ingots in Ark: Survival Ascended, you should:
- Collect Metal from rocks using a pick
- Craft a Refining Forge
- Smelt your Metal into Metal Ingots using fuel in a Refining Forge
