Path of Exile features plenty of loot to gather, but the Forbidden Tome is vital when dealing with the Forbidden Sanctum in PoE. The 3.22 update turned the Forbidden Sanctum into a core mechanic in the game. Such an update made anything connected to it also a must-have. One of those things is the Forbidden Tome. We’ll explain everything about the Forbidden Tome, from how to find it to exactly how you can use it. We hope you’ll dive head-on into the game that may offer you a free-to-play replacement for Diablo 4.

PoE Forbidden Tome – Description and Location

Update 3.22 brought several new features and improvements to the action RPG known as Path of Exile. A big focus in PoE was the changes to the Forbidden Sanctum. Added to the core game, the max Area Level is 83, you can find Rare Monsters in the rooms, and there are more hazards. Those are just a few of the changes. Forbidden Tomes are also a new addition thanks to PoE update 3.22.

A Forbidden Tome is described as a Sanctum Research item. Below is a quote from the game about the Forbidden Tome:

“Our world has fallen. Demons are everywhere. I throw this book in the shrine, so that maybe someone else will find a way …”

The brown book bears a close resemblance to The Mortinomicon Exitio Immortals. In fact, if you find that book, it may be used in place of a PoE Forbidden Tome.

Now that we know what it is, how do we find the Forbidden Tome? Well, it’s a drop item starting at Level 68. You must do the following actions for a chance to loot it:

  • Unlock the Forbidden Sanctum
  • Battle enemies

You will meet Divinia in Act 10 at the Oriath Docks. She’ll get you one step closer to the PoE Forbidden Tome because she’ll grant you access to the Sanctum. With this unlocked, enemies will now drop Forbidden Tomes for you to loot.

How To Use a Forbidden Tome in PoE

There’s one purpose of a PoE Forbidden Tome: room access. Once you place a Forbidden Tome into the Relic Altar, you gain access to an entire floor of the Sanctum. This includes eight rooms. Any additional Forbidden Tomes you find will reveal the following statuses of your run:

  • Afflictions
  • Boons
  • Relics
  • Resolve

The PoE Forbidden Tome is also tradeable. So, if you need help getting them or have too many and are willing to part with them, meet up with friends and get to trading.
