Nightingale has interesting progression systems for you to measure your progress, including the “Gear Score” feature. Gear Score, as you might have guessed, is a way to measure your gear’s level and strength, allowing you to tackle newer and harder challenges as you play the game. To tackle some of the more challenging content in the game, you’ll need to figure out how to increase your Gear Score in Nightingale.

Increasing Gear Score in Nightingale

Increasing your Gear Score in Nightingale is necessary to tackle some of the game’s most challenging content. Nightingale is still in early access, so you’ll only need to raise your Gear Score to 20 to access the Antiquarian Site of Power. You can check your Gear Score by opening your inventory. Your Gear Score is displayed with a yellow number on the top right.

Each gear piece you have equipped contributes to your overall Gear Score, which you can check by mousing over each piece of gear. Your Gear Score takes from the average of all of your equipped gear, so you don’t necessarily need to get each piece to your desired Gear Score (although you might find that easier in some cases.) To increase your Gear Score, you’ll need to unlock new recipes and craft stronger gear.

You can craft new gear with the Simple Sewing Bench. The recipe costs 55 Essence Dust, which you can farm by harvesting materials or killing monsters. This station is a priority for you to build as you can upgrade your Gear Score. To unlock new recipes, you’ll have to complete quests or find Essence Traders, who will appear on your map as you explore different biomes.

Be sure to make crafting new gear one of your top priorities while going through Nightingale, as this is necessary to experience more of the game.
