Knowing how to make a bedroom in Dwarf Fortress is a vital part of the game. While you will be busy constructing all sorts of workshops and industrial structures, the dwarfs will need a place to rest. The bedrooms will help the dwarfs relax and get some rest after their day’s shift. You can either manually assign dwarves in their bedrooms, or they will automatically assign the rooms to themselves. Here’s a guide to help you make a bedroom in Dwarf Fortress.
Guide to Making a Bedroom in Dwarf Fortress
Let’s get the obvious out of the way. To make the resting place, you need a bed and qualify a particular underground zone as a bedroom. For the bed and the door, you will need a Carpenter’s Workshop. Go to Add New Task under Carpenter’s Workshop, and click on Make a bed. Following that click on Make a door. It won’t hurt to make a small stockpile of beds and doors to make bedrooms in the future.
You will need a 2×2 space for a bedroom, but you can always make bigger rooms. A larger space is a little better because you can put more useful things in the room. Make sure to smooth out the area you are using to make the bedrooms. This will ensure your dwarfs are happier. After you have a ready space, place the door and bed. Here are the steps for placing doors:
- Go to Place structure
- Click on Doors/hatchets
- Choose your door from the menu.
To place the beds, follow these steps:
- Go to Place structure
- Click on Furniture and then Bed.
- Choose your bed from the menu.
Once everything is in place, go to Zones and click on Bedrooms. Next, click on the area you want as a bedroom. That’s all. You now have a functioning bedroom in Dwarf Fortress.
